Ok, how do u run out of MPH??? i thought the engine would blow up if u go over the max amount. Like my sister told me if speed needle thing goes to the red marks, then the engine will blow up.

you're thinking of the tachometer snuggles, the meter to the right of the speedometer that says RPMs, and its generally not good when the needle gets to the red

well in virginia the cops aren't allowed to chase you if you're going over 100 so the speedometer wouldn't really be an issue here  . As for a new speedometer, I haven't seen anything that would go in place of the original. I'm sure there's some universal external piece that you could mount anywhere you wanted, but as far as I know its just one of those things the corolla aftermarket hasn't gotten to :?

That's true, but the REAL question is: can your Corolla outrun the walkie-talkie? Speedometer doesn't make you GO faster. Just lets you know how fast you're going before the cops up ahead get you!

SCC covered a test of police vehicles here, don't forget those crown vics are pretty heavy, especially with all the stuff that police carry in their cars. That hummer is pretty funny though

Yeah i was talking about that. . . . Exactly. I went up to the red bars one time and like i started freaking out!! i was like "uh huh, stop going to red" and i was stepping on the brakes.

Virginia is gay. i have virgina. like i was going 82 in a 65 and the state trooper pulled me over. Virginia don't allow radar dectectors either. Virginia is very strict about speeding. they were gonna charge me for a misdemenor (spelling???). Like the trooper wrote me up as reckless driving. I was speeding, not driving drunk!!

First off, your automatic transmission won't let you get in the red, close, but not quite. So you could floor it all day and not worry about it(worry about crashing instead  ). Secondly reckless in virginia is 20 over, so either you were going 85 or that cop is full of crap. And yes virginia is broke so cops are out with a vengeance :(

I'm in Florida, and everyday I do 90 mph for a solid 45 minutes to school. Trust me the Corolla would be a fine car for fast driving if it weren't so dam twitchy above 90mph. Crosswinds, and pavement irregularites make this car seem like its a dancing star. Also, come on guys this car looks like a minivan with the ride height. I'm still mulling over my options, I want to drop it about 2 inches above the ground. But its looks so squat and short. By far the nicest corolla I've ever seen is this one:http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/264706

The only thing about this car is that the Skyline Front bumper has weird cutouts for foglights, and maybe the center mesh cut is a bit too big with no design lines. Also, what happened to the rear lights? Those need some work. I'd stay stock but replace the bulbs with led units designed in a nice pattern. I should start working on that. He keeps his car in tip top condition though as evidenced in the pictures.

Makes me happy I bought a black one, but makes me sad I bought a corolla. I wish TRD, Turbonetics, Garrett, or some other big name company would come out with some reputable products for our car. Make it look less like what it truly is.

Yeah the whole Viriginia being poor thing, i believe it, b/c when i got the ticket i was thinking just that. Viriginia is so poor they have to send state troopers to pull people and get money from tickets. I got a lawyer to handle that, so i am pretty sure 82 in 65 was reckless driving. I asked the courts, the trooper and the lawyer and they all said i was reckless driving.

If u think the Corolla looks like a minivan, what does the Matrix look like???
Why are u dissing the Corolla??? i like it. I know it's not the fastest car in the world and it does shake and stuff, aren't u being a lil harsh??? It gets you from point A to point B. If u didn't like the Corolla, why did u buy it???

Well, actually I bought it because of the gas mileage TOY - fr%$ggin - ota was advertising. It does 29mpg in the city and 38mpg on the highway my a$$. To top off I took it to the dealer and the techician told me 27mpg on the highway was real good. Trust me I had to muster the will to not b%tchslap him. I bought the dam car because it was supposed to be good on gas. I could have bought a way better car but decided this one would save me money from all the driving I do.

why didn't u get the PRIUS??? But the paper says that the MPG ranges and differs from different drivers. I know personally, i get about 23 mpg in the city. Yeah the paper lied, but it says on the paper that it does very with drivers.

Did you have a good look at the Prius? Whoa, if you thought the Corolla had a lack of aftermarket products, what if you wanted to mod a Prius? The Corolla is a good looking car if done right, but trust me it is not one of the sportier looking cars out there.

I know mpg varies depending on a lot of factors, but I'm located in Florida, and most of my driving is done on the highway, about 10% of my driving is done stop and go. On the highway however, I hardly drive above 75 and most of the times I do 70mph. My tachometer hardly ever goes above 3k rpm. In a nutshell, I drive it like my granny would - just to see if I really can achieve anywhere from 35-38 mpg (as advertised). Anyway, never once have I accomplished that.

The Prius is not that bad. I mean like u said u want a car that gets good gas mileage and u apparently didn't care for the looks. The 2004 Prius doesn't look that bad, though. I got the Toyota Connections magazine and the Prius is on the back of it. It doesn't look that bad. I think the 04 Solaras are pretty too. It looks a lot like the Accord coupes though. I personally think that the ECHO is the ugliest Toyota ever made. The Tercel looked better than the Echo.

I've never used on a whole tank of gas on the highway, so i can't put in my 2 cent for that. But if i go on vacation and like my tank of gas is divided between the highway and the city, i calculated that i get about 35 mpg. So that's not bad. I am planning to go to Florida this summer, so i'm gonna calculate the gas mileage i get on the highway.

Man, I'm sorry sometimes I do drive it like its a race car, but only because I want to see if there really is a difference in gas consumption. I drive it fast, I drive it slow, but this piece of car still drinks gas. When I drive at 90mph, the tachometer hovers at 3200 rpm and for a 45 minute trip i burn about an 1/8 of a tank.

However, on a recent trip from NY to FL I filled up with exxon regular. I got 230 miles out of a half tank of gas, doing about 75mph. That is the best I've seen so far. Thats a projected range of about 460 miles. And to top it off my car was loaded with goods and whatnot. I also noticed that my "rotten egg": smell was completely gone under hard acceleration.

Even when I was driving at 90 mph during that trip the needle hardly moved - only then did I feel that my car was performing the way it should.
