Alteeza Side marker lights, cool no cool??

Alteeza Side marker lights, cool no cool??

I put side marker lights on my Toyota Truck, they are small rectangles about 3 inches long and 1/2 inch wide, they have a round rubber gromited insert, so installation was a center hole and two small end holes for the mounting screws, they look almost stock and do give fair warning when changing freeway lanes, I live in So Cal ya know....

But just like alarms keeping honest folks honest etc, it only keeps the folks paying attention at bay and alert...

The jerks still almost change into me with out signaling and such,

Even though it has save me a accident or two or at least a close call or two,

The Alteeza has small oval ones, clear with yellow bulbs, about 2 1/2 x 1 inch,

I can get them for $50 and like the safety factor for my wife and child...

So they would be kinda stock and still Toyota, please send opinions and please no dumb flames etc. thanks!
and thanks for the info from Zero, I foud these at Carson Toyota, cool place thanks!

Looking to put sidemarker lights BMW (?) or other on my new 2004 Toyota Corolla, which does not have sidemarkers, there is a couple of concerns, on a vehicle that does not have them I will be surface mounting them, so they cant be recessed, I have seen some that are and I would have to cut a exact pattern of the outline of the light and make it fit. The BMW ones looked like a good idea...see here http://e30.bmwdiy.info/smoked-sides/ these are recessed.

    This guy did his with a BMW but has not answered emails sent;
    http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/242344/1

One easier way is to find one that has a center post mount, so all I will have to do is cut a circle, someone told me a 323, 318 or M3 one would work, any ideas?

The 2003 Alteeza ( the car not the aftermarket lights) the Japanese version of the Lexus IS300 which is in essence based on the Corolla has them, see attached, they are small ovals with a square back so I would have to cut a square hole, this would be OK, as the body of the lens would cover any imperfections. See here http://www.is300.net/store/customer/product.php?productid=70&cat=13&page=1 for side marker

    And

http://www.is300.net/store/customer/product.php?productid=17 for bumper, not doing this but would this work?

The Scion also built by Toyota has a rounded tear drop shaped one, kinda like an egg shape, although not recessed. .it does need a same shaped hole to clip mount into, again the need for a same shaped hole requiring skill possibly beyond mine.

    Any ideas?

Re: Alteeza Side marker lights, cool no cool??

I would search for mirrors that have built-in signal repeaters (such as all newer MB's or VW Beetles) they'll be more visible than the bumperside or fender-mounted signal lights. You might be able to find a DTM or M3-look-a-like mirror that has built in LED repeaters in the mirror housings. If you're really adventurous you could try to modify your existing mirror housings to accept some LED's..

Visteon (or companies like it) also make < or > shaped LED arrows that illuminate from behind the mirror surface. Many large SUV and trucks have these kind of mirrors and they're highly visible.

I think some of those M3 style mirrors with the LED's are actually powered. I beleive a user on this board by the name of Jae installed these mirrors and they are powered. But ya i think they look kinda ricey.

i do like the idea of putting side markers on the corolla but the only thing i am conserned with is screwing it up but i would do it if i knew what i was doing or had someone who could help me out as i would not want to cut a hole in my fender and make it to big or something. if you do it post some pics. i like the m3 side markers but i think a toyota part would be cool and it would be toyota and different i have seen lots of civics with the m3 side markters around here and i love to be different.

agreed, the key is to look cool and different, not "Civic-ed out", the challange I have seen with some turn signal reapeaters or side marker lights is ...for example the Scion one, a tapered oval shape, like a 2 dementional egg shape, you have to cut this shape into your fender, too much room for error, the light snaps into the shape, so if it is off, you F-ed up...my buddy a Toyota tech, says he can do it, and he says hey I am a Toyota trained machanic, not a body shop guy, if I f- up then we can put a Barbie sticker over the hole, of cource this make me way more nervious....

On my truck it was a center post type of light, so drill a center hole and make sure the light was level, snug it up and wire it up, took a hour,

so I would like a stock look, but there is no stock look...the Altis, Corolla and IS300 do not have them, the Alteeza does have it but it is a plain oval, so finding a plain oval that center mounted would be the way,

I like the look of the Audi one, a clear marker with the sheild / reflector that makes the light yellow, seems cool and I will look into it and report back...

I found out I am using the wrong term, the light I am refering to is
    Side Mounted- Turn Signal Repeaters,
side markers are the non blinking, visible from the side,
yellow in the front and red in the rear (no pun intended)

what I want is the clear, highly mounted on the fender, towards the door, clear lens whth a yellow bulb Side Mounted- Turn Signal Repeaters
    cool?
seen the Audi ones they are cool, and the JDM ALteeza ones pictured on www.is300.net
this link below never seems to work but...
    http://www.is300.net/store/customer/product.php?productid=70&cat=13&page=1
look at the main page-www.is300.net-then store- then lighting- then scrool down 1/2 way...

Also I belive Tom's makes one, very similar..
any opinions on , best ease of mount and style?

I got square ones that are about 1" square on my car. I bought them off a retard on ebay, but the lights are ok. They are not as bright as I wanted, but I havnt been almost side swipped much since I put them in. They required a rather large hole though, my dremel tool worked great, but I was VERY nervouse cutting out for them. I dont have any pics to show you but they look like this

I wanted the white/clear ones, but they only had the smoke ones at he time.

did you run across any wiring problems? and warning lights go off? Some cars detect the extra drain and think the bulb it out and fire off a warning...

the guy in Japan, as most countries are far surpassed on requiring a second languge...speaks English, nice guy too, here is his responce:

"I'm http://www.katch.ne.jp/~moreno03/gita/ page's webmaster moreno. Thank you for having my website seen.

    http://www.katch.ne.jp/~moreno03/gita/smarker/smarker_01.jpg
part number of this side-marker lens is 81731-51020 at toyota dearlers in JAPAN.

I think that it is the same part as TOYOTA CELSIOR(LEXUS LS430), TOYOTA ist(SCION xA).

moreno03@geocities.co.jp will close at November 30. moreno03@katch.ne.jp is my main Email address."

I also got a responce from the UK too...

    Hi,
See attached for the led style sidemarkers that flash orange. it is just peel and stick type so you will only need a hole big enough for 2 wires.
    Best regards,

    Terry.

we I did it these found here:

    http://www.espdesign.co.uk/udp.asp?cat=4&subcat=uf&make=&model=&udp=664

they arrived in 4 days, from UK to West Coast, why cant US companies do that???

they work great used Narva Bulbs a 17169 Amber, also known as a 2827 looks like a 194 wedge bulb but brighter, for clear bulbs like our Trunk you can use a 2825 you can find in Pep Boys but even brighter yet go to the 3652 Stanley it is a Xenon bulb way brighter, you can acually see the stuff in the trunk....

anyway the turn signal repeters rock...

i think side markers will look really good on our corollas. i have those stupid turn signal mirrors... they look ok i guess but i dont really like em... not power first off and they are really small compaired to O.E. i wonly got them because some a** hole bashed my driver one off and at the time the only place to get a new on was the dealer for 200 bucks so i said screw that and bought the turn signal ones off e-bay for 70 shipped.
