    Magnaflow Exhaust system

Sup all. I emailed Magnaflow the other day asking about the exhaust system they're workin on for our cars. this is the response that i got from them...

"Yes we are still going to make that system. Right now we are about 60 days
out on that vehicle. Thanks for your interest in Magnaflow.

so it either means in two months they'll have a system for us or their going to start on one...either way i cant wait cuz Magnaflow is a very good brand 8)

I just ordered it from Ptuning. It's on its way, via UPS ground. I'm taking a leap of faith here, but I bet that it will be just as good or better than the Borla, and I'm sure it will look a helluva lot better than the TRD muffler...probably sound better too.

hold on. when i look at the magnaflow from ptuning, the year is 2001-2003 so i dont know if thats for our cars. they might have assumed that the 2001 goes all the way to 2003.

That's a good point...however, Magnaflow has not released a cat-back system for this car previous to 2003. At least, not to my knowledge. If it doesn't fit, Ptuning will be refunding my $$$ and payin for return shipping as well!

Maybe I should call magnaflow to check...

...and by the way, check this link out.

    http://www.performanceintl.com/shop/year.cgi?comp=magna&make=TOYOTA&model=COROLLA

another vender seems to be offering the system (at a higher price) but they list the system at 2001-2003 as well. If you check the part # there, it matches with Ptuning's number as well. So, it begs the question:

Just what is the difference between these years? How could 2 venders be wrong about this?

i think the vendors are just going with what the manufacturer said about what year(s) it's for... maybe magnaflow was able to make it fit 2001 corolla's and up. i've never been under an earlier corolla so i don't know if it would work or not, just my $0.02

My package has arrived, and I am pleased to have found out that is seems to be the first, "true" cat-back system. It inludes the muffler section, that looks identical to the borla,...AND the resonator section as well! Sweet. I need to get it installed asap. I think that I will have it professionally done, as the installation notes state that I need to do some cutting.

Anyways, I am taking pictures of it, out of the box, and on my car. However, I need someone to host them for me. If anyone can, send me your email address, and we will get the pics up on the forum for everyone to see.

More posts will follow as I finish the installation.

...sweet, it's more than just a sport muffler. It sounds like their Matrix exhaust which is also a true cat back. I can't wait to see pics, I hope it looks better than the Borla.

 She's absolutely beautiful, korn646!! That's great news! Nice pics too. I like the finely crafted muffler and overall quality of the system, especially at that price. Let us know how she sounds and performs.

    Done!

Got the exhaust installed this morning, and I'm going back to bed, but before I do... more pics of the finished install...(taken kinda hastily)

There you have it. My only complaint about the looks of it is that the chrome portion on the tip should extend a little farther back, and, I think it would look a little better if the tip were recessed into the bumper a litlle more. Minor things there.

It should be noted that the shop that did it for me let me know that there was one weld neccessary at the resonator. He told me that if it was about 1 1/4" longer, it would have probably clamped up without a leak...he suggested this may be the difference between the 01 and 03 model years.

All in all, I like it a lot. It has a nice low tone when you start it, and maintains it through the power band. As I have heard other people say about the Borla exhaust, my AEM CAI does seem to take over in the top end...It seems that I am noticing the exhaust more and more tho, and when tooling around my neighborhood, it gives off a nice low hum. AND it never sounds all ricey. I don't feel any loss of power in the low end, but I have yet to really get on it...when I get on the freeway later today, I'll know how she performs. So far, so good!

If anyone wants any more pics up, let me know. (car's really dirty cause of the snow) But, I will be glad to take any more pics that you need.

One more thing. Should I reset my ECU...dsconnect my battery, etc. I really hate setting up my EQ and Crossover settings...But, if there's a reason to reset, then I will.

You should be fine without reseting it. It's already adjusting itself to the increased air flow. It should run better and stronger after a couple fast runs as it recalibrates itself to the new conditions.

the whole thing comes in one box, with one part #...I doubt that you could get the resonator separately.

The exhaust seems to be getting a little louder...it offers decent hp gains, and is definately worth every penny paid.

    Re: Done!

When you say clamped up without a leak, that means that it wouldn't have been necessary to perform a weld, correct? Not that there were problems with any kinds of leaks during your installation?

Sorry if the question seems stupid, it's late, I'm tired, and now I'm thinking of buying this thing :D

he told me it was just too short to clamp, and it would have leaked if we had conncected it that way...so he welded it instead. of course there are no leaks in the system whatsoever now.

Its been a while since the last post. Who else has this catback? Do you also have this problem requiring the weld? I thought this was supposed to be bolt on.
