    cellphone advice?

hey guys. i'm finally switching my plan over to cingular from att, and i'm going to get a new phone when i do. i'm looking at the various flip phones they have listed on the website, and i think i've narrowed it down to these choices:
    LG L1400i

    Samsung e317

does anyone know about either of these phones? pros/cons?

I have ATT/Cingular now, and let me tell you....IT SUCKS. Verizon has the best coverage. I know, I use to work for Radio Shack, and we sold cell phones all the time. I'm actually breaking my contract to switch to Verizon, so good luck with Cingular.

NO, i won't be going to Verizon. i think it depends on your area. i've had Att for 2 years now, and i'm pretty happy with the service...while Verizon lied to us, added 2 years onto our old contract without our permission, and consistently dropped calls. not to mention - their customer service SUCKS(hence the lying portion of my statement).

ANYWAY, since that didn't have anything to do with the PHONES in question, does anyone have useful advice?

Well, then it's a matter of what features you like in a phone.

how's the sound quality on the LG?

naturally. that's why i posted two specific phones, instead of asking a very general question.

i don't have a choice...i have to officially switch over.

besides, this is an opportunity to go with a cheaper plan and another phone. i'm sick of the Motorola, and my contract is up this month anyway.

I have the e317 if you want to check it out. I love it. The only thing I hate is that it defaults to T9 when you send a text message instead of just regular alphabet.

Yeah, they are the same company now. I think the portation of ATT customers to Cingular is complete. If not, then it's very close.

Which will double their tower range, which is a good thing.

But how can you go from one to the other, if they are the same now?

it's the way the plan is set up...people on "att" still have to switch.

that would be why Sprint and Verizon both suck in my area.

my only requirements for a phone are bluetooth and polyphonic ringtones. i use the bluetooth for my handsfree speakerphone in my car, because you can't drive 5 speed and talk at the same time, it just isn't safe. and everybody loves funky ringtones

the best phones that i have had are from motorola and samsung which is what i have right now. my mom has the LG and says it works pretty well but the voice is not the best so she says. the service provider is sprint. i pay 110 for two phones and with 1290 mins and 5 bucks for every 100 mins over and with direct pay i don't have t o worry about anything anymore like i used to.

I have had, and friends have had a couple different cells. Here's my experience.
I've owned a couple of nokias. Some fairly basic ones, and some quality ones, but I have never had a problem with them, or their reception, even out of the expected coverage area. Great phones.
I have owned one samsung, the sph-300 i believe, was an mp3 player/phone. Worked amazing, never had a single problem with it. Reception was shitty sometimes, but that was with a different provider, which I am no longer with.
My experience with LG's is that they arent the best phones (a couple years ago). know of a friends who have had them just stop working.
Never had a serious problem with a moto. Had one for 5 years, and only had to replace the antenna twice becuase of someone breaking it, cleaned out once, for someone leaving it on the dash in the boat overnight when it was uncovered.

yea my ex had an lg that was great for about a month. then it would do the thing where you answer a call, and cant hear the person on the other line, but they can hear you. or just turn off in the middle of a call when the battery is still in good condition.
Just didnt seem like a good phone then, but I'm sure that by now they would have cleaned up their act a bit.

1 - not going to consider t-mobile...their service sucks in my area.
2 - my nokia had worse reception than the Motorola has in my parents' basement...and talking on it at the apartment NEVER happened.
    3 - i hated my Nokia :)

yeah...i'm not going to have Sprint...their service sucks, and their customer service is HORRIBLE. ask Vamp about all the crap he had to deal with.

teh ring tones? sounds clear and loud. you can adjust it. i never did have a problem with it, had it bout like 3-4 months or so.

best if you go check it out yourself, go check out both of the phones and see which one you like better.

nope...i meant the sound quality for phone calls. do you have to strain to hear the other person? do you have to yell for them to hear you?
