    wierd idle while pumping gas

i was at a gas station and i left the engine running to keep the a/c on for my friend... she asked me to leave the a/c on thats why... anyways, so the idle was like moving up and down between 1000 to 700 rpms... is that normal? this was while i was pumping gas...

ya, new gas is alot better in quality so ur computer has to adjust for the better fuel that is coming in, its highly recommended to turn ur car off for that reason and many others

actually... it's caused by your EVAP system.

When you're pumping gas into the tank while the vehicle is running you're constantly changing the pressure dynamics of the fuel tank. The EVAP system opens the valve fully to draw the pressure off your tank. By opening the valve 100% the entire time you cause a vacuum leak in your manifold. To compensate the ECU starts changing the injector cycles and timing to try to compensate for the change in manifold pressure and a cycle occurs causing the idle to bounce between 650 and 1100 rpms. (or as you observed 700 to 1000)

at least your car stays on.Mine turns off anytime i open the gas cap when the car is on. Ths check engine light also turns on and it will take a while for it to start once pressure is back to normal.

pues, que mas queres?. what more do you want. All i know is i just found out that a gas station can report you to the police if if you have your car on while pumping gas, which i think is taking it a bit too far.

    where are you from?

If I was a pump jockey and someone left their car on while I was supposed to pump gas, I would make them do it.
Sure the risk is minimal, but I wouldnt want to risk something that is stupid like that. (sure I'll take other risks though, that might seem stupid to the ill/un-informed :))

well, it would, if they were actually speaking a known language. They're just breaking up spanish and english and making up words that are difficult to follow even for someone fluent in both english and spanish....so don't feel bad if you don't understand them
