    Interior Color

I have noticed that most people who don't have an S model, have tan interiors. Is the tan interior better than the grey interior? I have a black LE with grey interior.

i got grey too, i think it depends on colors of cars too. on the black, white and the red you get the tan or gray, you might have to request the gray cuz all i've seen at dealers here is tan.

I like the darker color interiors better (easier to make it look better by painting pieces/etc) but tan is really easy to make it look clean. People always compliment me on how clean my car is... even though there is sand and dirt all over. ;)

I'm a fan of my light grey interior--it doesn't show the lint like dark and it doesn't seem to attract the heat as much either. the tan just makes me think of old people (no offense) 8)

    Hehehehe.

"Interior color" has everything to do with why I have an "LE" instead of an "S." The story goes something like this.......

I had been seriously investigating the Corolla when I was toying with the idea of getting a new car, but the real kicker came down to "get the exterior package with the S," vs. "get the interior package with the LE." In short, I wasn't too happy about the single choice of the "relentlessly black" interior of the "S" model. But, after test-driving an "S," I figured that the interior wasn't that horrifyingly depressing, so I "went for the S."

Well.... They only had two "S" models on the lot with the option packages I wanted (i.e., "loaded"), and neither was a color I was very interested in. Not that it mattered in the end -- both had already been sold off the lot, before they had even had a chance to take the plastic off the seats, etc. So, we did a deal where they'd get an "S" of my color choice (can you say "Moonshadow?"), but this was Saturday, and it probably wouldn't happen until like Monday or Tuesday. So, of course they wanted to take my trade-in and get me committed to the deal, so they put me into a loaner "LE" car, with a full tank of gas.

So, off I went with plenty of gas and plenty of time to kill, so I drove that sucker. :p I got on the freeway, I went all over the place -- I even hand-washed the thing, since it needed it and I got a good "feel" for the car that way. I had a chance to test the variable-intermittent wipers, which aren't available on the "S," and would be really really handy here in rainy Oregon, and so on. And, I got really used to the gray interior, otherwise known as "stone." Man, I liked that so much better than the black "S" interior, I couldn't stand it!!

So, after taking care of some business on Sunday, I went back to the dealer and found my sales guy. (Actually, a very good guy -- the best handling I've ever had at a dealership, by far!) Anyway, so I freaked him out by telling him straight out that "I had a change of heart." Then, I grinned and told him, "I want an LE instead of an S!" :p Of course, that was cool with him and his dealership, as we had a heckuva better chance of finding an acceptable car on the lot!

Well, on the lot the one "LE" they had that met my needs was Mineral Green Opalescent, which wasn't bad, but this had the "tan" interior, otherwise known as "beige." And, I really didn't like it -- most definitely didn't ring my chimes!! So, we went to the back lot, and there was one of the Indigo Ink Pearl ones, just off the truck. And, this had the "stone" interior, which I wanted. So, that was the deal -- it had 3 miles on it when they brought it out after getting all the plastic off of it and gassing it up. I gave it the first test-drive it ever had, and drove that off the lot.

So, it's "stone" for me!! I couldn't be happier with the interior color, especially compared to the "all-black" interior. I really like the "fake wood" stuff too -- works for me! The only want I could really have would be the alleged "leather" interior. That's what I really wanted to get, but after an exhaustive search of every Toyota dealer in my state, it was quite clear that "leather doesn't exist." At least, not in my area, or at least, not then. And, at that, the only leather option was "beige," which I didn't like, anyway. I'm definitely interested in getting a "stone" leather interior kit, and/or going to a shop my dealer uses to install aftermarket leather in all the cars they have that done to. Some day when I've got about $1,500 to spare, that is... :p

Anyway, that's how the story goes! And, for a little audio-visual (well, skip the "audio," I guess), here's my trade-in next to the loaner car I had. That's a 1996 Paseo next to a 2003 Corolla LE. Is the Corolla a bigger car, or what? :p

    heh...I have an S and I have variable-intermittent wipers...they came standard :)

thats funny...i had no clue you wanted a moonshadow corolla...my first choice was super white but i couldn't find that color...i decided on moonshadow and i can say that I'm more than happy with my choice...not only does it look good, it hides dirt really well :)

my intermitent wipers on my corolla S

I wouldn't mind an LE corolla...but it would have to be a genuine made in japan corolla with a JT VIN 8)

corolla S's are strictly made in america only :(

    Hehehehe.

Dang it, it's night, and not good picture-taking time. I'll get a picture up tomorrow.

We're not talking "intermittent" wipers here -- y'know, like Zero's picture above, which has an "intermittent" setting. We're talking "variable" intermittent -- which adds a control ring that lets you vary the intermittent speed from very slow, to pretty quick. Pretty nice to have when you get a lot of rain, like we do up here. Not a huge thing, but being able to dial in just the right intermittent speed can really help. :p

I'll get a picture taken tomorrow to show you what I'm talking about! :p

well i wish we could have gotten the variable wipers on our cars. it rains here off and on but most of the time not to hard and i like the variable setting on its lowest settting. my corrola intermitent is a bit to fast for me. o well otherwise i have nothing to complain about. Rain X works for me. i hardly use my wipers now.

Yeah this is my 200th post.

yeah i just came home from my vacation in miami it rains everyday there. but at least it is quick and then sunny again. and florida rain is never slow just hard heavy and fast. so everyone on the highway infront of you slams there breaks and gets into an accident. i see it everytime it rains down there. some just almost hit me last week but swerved and hit the truck next to me instead. lucky me. but someone hit the rear bumper of my wife durango while we were there and it has a lot of scratches now but o well. its already got some scratches all over from my son and other idiots that open there doors and dont look to see if they parked to close to you.

thats why im leary of takin the mouldings off of the doors. idiots in parking lots especially old people in buicks or caddys dont look where theyre opening doors and hit ya. i rather walk a long distance if it means my car is safe and not gonna get hit. I was at Target the other day here in town and an elderly woman just let her cart go and it was on an incline and landed in the middle of the street. 3 cars ended up hitting each other and she didnt even bother lookin.

    Hyper,

Hehehe -- yeah, you just have to give all the idiots lots of room! No tailgating, no parking near ANYBODY, and so on. It's amazing how these people just couldn't give a rip about what they wreck!!

Anyway, back to variable intermittent wipers. :p Here you go:

It's that "INT TIME" control ring that lets you vary "how fast" the "intermittent" is. Up here in Oregon, you could say we're in a "rain forest" -- it just rains and rains and rains and rains. Heavy and hard, gentle and light -- it just rains all the time. "We don't tan, we rust."

Actually, we usually get a fine summer. Just as much as we get sick of the rain, we're getting to the point now (mid-August) where we start whining about how hot it's been all summer. No worries, the rain will return! :p In the end, we get lots of rain over perhaps 8 months out of the year, and the variable intermittent wiper feature is one I use a whole bunch. I'm a devout Rain-X user, but that only works "at speed," so it's wipers everywhere else. I'm definitely glad I've got the variable intermittent wipers -- I really give 'em a workout!
