    Unorthodox crank pulley...dangerous?

I was looking into if anything else cost effective can help my reliable 1zzfe. What I found was the unorthodox crank pulley. From what I've read, if a crank pulley doesn't have the harmonic dampener, the crank shaft can wear down very fast and even break. I assume the unorthodox crank pulley doesn't have the dampener...but I'd like to ask anyway; does anyone here have it on their car? is your car DEAD?

I don't trust underdrive crank pulleys. Read up on them on newcelica.org, since they have the same engine.

except that toyota pre-balances their cranks before they head out...... (at least they did for the 4ag's)..... i've heard from a couple shops that toyota balances their cranks better than anyone else..... hence, there is less need for a harmonic balancer as long as the pulley and flywheel are balanced......

for example, 4ag's don't even have (that i've ever seen) harmonic balancers.....

I went with a lightweight pulley with my older Celica (3SGE) and put one about 115K with pulley before I sold it (~225K total). All the OEM engines I've worked on had a harmonic damper - but like toyotaspeed90 mentioned, Toyota makes very good and well designed engines - you may not see any problems. On an older 4AGE, 3SGE, and variants of them - I wouldn't worry too much, always had big power potential and responds well to tuning. On the newer 1ZZFE and 2ZZGE - I'd find other ways to make extra power, a bit risky given ther other little problems this series of engines had. But it is your call in the end.
