    Jeep Tint

I know this is kinda a weird question for a corolla board but my mom has a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, and from some internet research the stock tint appears to be 20% on the back windows. Now i live in MA and the tint laws state that it can only be 35% all around. So my question is why dont any Jeeps get pulled over. Is it another deal like with HIDs soon to be that it is only legal if it is stock. I was thinking of putting a 35% tint all around to be a good citizen, but if the cops dont care anyways, why not just put 20% in the back and rear passenger windows, but keep the front 35% to be legal. Is my logic making any sense with you guys?

makes total sense to me, but probably not to a cop looking for something to do

all SUV's and Minivans that come factory/dealer tinted are 20% like you had mentioned, but the reason they dont get ticketed is because if they were too, there would be a million lawsuits because that tint was not there by choice in most cases. if say you, me or anyone on this board goes beyond the legal limit, we will because that is a choice we made unless you have a limo license and have your car registered as one. My new next door neighbor is a cop and i had stated the same question to him a couple days ago because i was considering darkening my tint to 10% all around. you might get aways in most cases, but do remember, the amt of light out and the color of the car makes a big difference in the look of the tint, my friend with the accord has the same setup as me, 50 driver/passenger and 35 for the rest but his looks hella darker and he's got ticketed for it, he got out of it cuz the police station looked at his recipt when he brought it in with only a warning cuz the front is not supposed to be tinted beyond 4" from the top in Michigan, hope that helps.

I guess its kinda unfair that they are allowed to tint that dark and not get in trouble, while if me and you do it we may get pulled over. These big companies seem to be above the law; but anyways how is the cop going to know the difference?

well what he mentioned to me was that you can tell for most cars based on brand and type. for example, almost all SUV's, Minivans, and Pickup Trucks have tint unless they are fleet versions, which is a dead give away to the matter of having tint and it not being legal. so if you try to tell a cop that my corolla came factory tinted at 5% for instance, there is a fat chance that he is gonna buy it. he did say that if you have a prescription or a doctors note for say about your eye's health/condition to peresent to them when they do pull you over, they will not bug you.

I might do the 20% or just be nice and get 35%; too bad i have 20/20 vision, no eye doctor for me.
