    injen SRI 01-02.. my experience

I started with the heatshield installed and it felt like I lost HP but the engine was hella loud. But then I realized that it rattles against an oil line and it's extremely annoying because the shield is just too big.

now I've pulled the heat shield out and just have the pipe and filter.. it feels like I've gained HP?!? but a lot of the vroom sound is gone. (engine was fully heated)

why would it do better with no heat shield??

I am going to go with Phozenstone on this one.
Some days driving my rolla I think, wow, this has a little more power than yesterday, whats up? Then you think about it, and nothing has changed, and probably nothing has changed in your driving, and the car isnt any more powerful. Its just how people are driving around you (where you are as well), etc/etc.
You wouldnt be able to feel the increase from an SRI

    Teh butt dyno sux0rz.

I once claimed that 91 octane gave me a little extra juice under the hood. The reason is because the temperatures had been hovering near the 100s and all of a sudden dived down to the 70s the day I filled up with 91. It had nothing to do with what I was pouring in my car.

There are way too many variables involved to list, weather being the biggest. Heat soak can be finicky too, depending on driving conditions (stop and go vs. quickly moving) you'll get more or less of it. Depending on the heatshield it could restrict airflow ever so slightly (since you are purposely denying the use of part of your filter's surface area) but usually that's outweighed by the cooler temperatures. It all depends on filter and heatshield construction and placement in the engine bay, driving conditions, etc. As for the roaring, if I could put my ear up to an exhaust and spit out a horsepower number, I'd be rich. Deaf, but still rich. :p

I made a custom intake on my car. It was so easy all it took was small pipe and cut a hole to put the MAF in and Voila' my car now has an open intake element with no filter at all.

been to tempe it get dang hot there. Last year i went i Phoenix and damn was it hot it felt like i was going to melt literally.

did you just say you have it open to the throttle body without a filter anywhere between?
