Good work on the DIY page.

While you have the center console off why don't you add how-to take out the bulbs for the AC, air circulation, and defroster buttons. And you can also get to the cigerettle lighter bulb with the console off.

here you go achint, i gave a breif description with the pics, feel free to elaborate if you want. And i noticed you had a manual tranny, so i've got pics for us guys with auto tranny's. If you've got any questions, ask.

for the cigerette lighter bulb, unplug the bulb harness & 1/4 turn on the buld to remove it
    [IMG]

    pic of the bulb
    [IMG]

for the defroster button bulb, while you wedge the tab down push from the front of the button (towards you) and it should slide out
    [IMG]

1/4 turn and then wedge out the bulb
    [IMG]

    thats the bulb removed
    [IMG]

thats the AC and air circulation button bulbs
    [IMG]

1/4 turn and wedge out bulb
    [IMG]

AC and air circulation button bulbs (they're red, not orange like the pic shows)

unscrew to slide shift knob up enough to make getting to the bulb easier
    [IMG]

4 tabs holding the chrome surround on
    [IMG]

there is the bulb ( i just removed the green condom. didn't paint the bulb)

painted the back of the plastic piece with the "PRND2L" (instead of bulb, cause i didn't want all the letters red)

front of that plastic piece (the line beside the "PD2L" done by scratching off the white coating on the back with a knife b4 painting)

oh i see, yeah that works too but i got big hands and there is not enough room in there to pull it out for me. plus you gotta pull real hard too so i just did the screw driver instead. i used a very fine one to do it, but good looking out

    Stylin,

Thanks for your pictures first. Did you also paint the bulbs or you replaced them with new bulbs? How hard is it to install LEDs?

yeah he painted his bulbs too. its not too hard to replace with LED's but it will take some time, cuz you have to get to the power source for each of the bulbs, add resistors so the LED's dont blow out and then add the LED's to the whole system. this is the easiest and simplest quick fix for the whole deal

hey darren, I painted my bulbs with some glass paint. I actually just dipped the bulbs in the paint instead of brushing it on.

And nomes, my car is still in stock form (except the console lights). the pic in my sig. is completely photoshoped.

i'm waiting for someone to change the lights on the stock cd player. I wanna get to that soon. (sucks not to have money for a nice aftermarket deck). The cheap ones are sh*t and the nice one are to expensive.

well, good news and bad news time.

The whole inside is lighting up with about 30 tiny LED's. there is about 15 - 20 of them directky behind the main display. then one for each button, and 2 for the part around each dial. They are the low profile style and will most likely be $2 - $3 per light.

    I rate this mod as

    NOT WORTH IT!!

    The good news..........?

I was feeling finda distructive when I pulled the face of the deck and figured since my "stained glass" paint is "non conductive" a few coats of that over the whole circuit board should do SOMETHING!? right?? well I'll let you know when the paint dries. I painted the whole front side of it. If it doesnt work I can always get a cheap deck for around $100 - $150. Worst case scenario is that the lights are a pukey green/blue color, and I dont like it. But I didnt like the green anyway. We'll see how it goes in about 30 minutes after I get it all back together.

Got it all in and done. I cant tell what color I have now for the radio. Its too light out. It looks like it might be more of a whitish color. But its hard to tell right now. I will try and see tonight then take some pics if I can. I think it may be worth it.
