ummm, yes and no. my brother had a cobra radar, the ESD 9560 i think, and he still got a ticket. the cop pointed the radar right at him and it didnt go off. i have another odler cobra that didnt work woth crap when a copy was radaring right towards my way. it didnt go off at all, and they way i know he was using was he pulled over the guy behind me. so i dont know about others, but mine arent that great, but theres always cops can fool you. i heard they have the instant on radar guns now, so they can leave it off until they spot someone they think are speeding and then use it. just my $0.02

for lasers, the police has to stand still in order to take a measurement of ur speed
otherwise, those that are installed in the polices' cars are radars

Buy a V1... expensive, but much better than any of the competitors as far as performance goes. Also Valentine's product is upgradeable, so you don't have to toss your old detector and when new features come out.

Also if a police officer is "shooting" laser... you better pray, since it's beam width is about 6 feet wide at 1000 ft. Laser also operates in an "instant-on" mode all of the time and it's difficult to detect since there are so few stray signals...

VASCAR is the ultimate in non-detectability (mostly used by older cops that can remember the days before radar) since it uses no radio or light waves at all. It's simply timing a vehicle between two known points (distance) and then calculating the speed by the amount of time it took for a vehicle to pass from one point to the other... Hvae you ever seen those white stripes painted perpendicular to the road (across or on the edges)? A cop can't be too far away...

    Just my $0.02

FYI Escort owns and makes BEL. I do agree that Valentine 1 is the best with the new Escort 8500 close behind. If money is no object go V1, if it is go Escort.

no, what i am saying is that as the battery goes bad, the strength of the unit to search for signals deteriorates. a friend had a solo s2 and he got nailed cuz his battery was bad and the detector didn't pick it up till it was too late

I have the original cordless solo. All I can say is that it's better than nothing. The newer version HAS to be better but I'd go with the Valentine 1 or Escort 8500 were I to replace it.

Up here the staties use a helicopter to watch those timing strips on the side of the road. No radar detector in the world will keep you from getting nabbed by that.

valentine's radar detector V1, you can send it in and ask them to tweak it if you want, and they will do it for free, they are really nice about stuff too, me and my dad have one and it works like a charm!
let me repharase that, tweak as in modify the frequncies.

U can upgrade the 8500 as well... I have no regrets whatsoever... Plus the best part is the boogey meter, which shows how many and what time of radar there are.... Sooooo if theres usually K band set off by a store, u might ignore it... But the 8500, will show there are 2 K bands... Its saved me ALOT... But yea dont rely on jus the detector... Use common sense as well... Today on the highway I passed 2 state troopers hiding with no laser/radar...

Ive got the escort 8500 solo s2 cordless version..
the way escort designed this is the reliablilty of the detector stays the same...even if battery life is low... it will warn you to change the battery, thus changing the battery becomes an issue... unless using digital lithuim batteries...they last longer....im looking for some digital rechargeable batteries...that will save cost...
Plus i cant stand that dangling wire from most radar detectors.... unless you hardwire it to the car.....so when you start your car ... it starts your detetor...

the escort that i have is AWESOME!
400% better range then other detectors...
and i have owned others... and there is def a diff.!!!
price is an issue though "270"
but its cheaper then several tickets ;)
if you have a lead foot like mine...and know youll be going 85-90 in a 70mph speedlimit zone... then a good detctor will save you... watch out for the pulse signals though...

nah, the bulb creates too much heat, it will burn the paint off and possibly blow
