bimmernut I may be missing something, on the Daniel Stern page he brings up the claim "SilverStars are the whitest / brightest bulbs", but then he goes into a discussion on blue tinted bulbs (which is right on the money), but the SilverStars aren't tinted blue, and he doesn't dispute the claim. Am I missing something there? (I do realize SilverStars aren't the whitest / brightest bulbs, by a long shot).

btw....your $0.02 worth is worth more than that!

I also read the silverstar section: This is where he talks about havng pictures of something being brighter.

Yes i agree with changing the setting's on the camera bit, and making it "seem" like it's brighter. But when people take pics of there "before and after shots" I dont think that they have modified their cameras to" show" the difference, they just take a basic pic before silverstar, then snap another one after.

For all inclusive purposes Silverstars are coated bulbs that filter out more blue/purple light to create a "whiter" light... I think that is why Silverstars are included in this section of his page

But seedy website retailers would to sell extra bulbs... and if Xenon/HID-look bulbs were really as bright as true HID's, then why the large price differential (and why does everyone want true HID's?) HID's would become obsolete if the output from Xenon/HID-like bulbs and true HID were the same. I have true HID's on my S4 (in fact they're ECE HID's) and Silverstars on my Corolla... side-by-side there is no comparison in output... the HID are about 2x as bright, especially when considering that HID's "only" use a 35w bulb.

the idea is that they are cheaper. And now that I have my DRL's off I anticipate that my lights will last almost 1 full year. on a set of $15 bulbs that would take well over 10 years for me to even get close to an HID kit. I would love to have one, but I have other prorities than that. IU would rather spend $500 on going faster, than looking better.

...the N.American Sylvania/Osram Silverstars are very lightly coated, not as much as the Hella Optilux or Piaa bulbs, but just enough to give a slightly whiter light w/out any blue or purple. You can this coating on the bulb. The european Sylvania/Osram Silverstars use the same gas mixture, but they are not coated and some of the nicest halogen bulbs you can buy...the best being Philips Vision Plus (which isn't available in 9005 or 9006). The European Silverstars are brighter than the N.American bulbs, but don't have that "white" look everyone seems to be looking for. I got the Silverstars b/c they offer an atual 20% increas in output over the stock Sylvania bulbs even if they are lightly tinted.

...oh yeah, that site has been around for a while.

Syndicate I didn't find the Euro Silverstars in 9005 or 9006 on powerbulbs. I did find this (quoted from their site:(

Many drivers including experienced ones can have a problem driving at night or at high speed.
Scientifically, it has been proven that as we get older we need more light to drive safely, for example a 40 year needs twice as much light as a 20 year old even more so when driving at high speed.
Philips has an effective solution. The Philips premium halogen is 30% brighter than normal lamps for greater safety and comfort

40 year olds need twice the light? Now if that's not justification to get real HIDs, dunno what is!

...sorry, I knew that they weren't available in those sizes. I thought you may have been using them for another vehicle, it really slipped my mind. Oh yeah, the Philips Premium bulbs are available in the proper size and they were reduced in price a while ago to make them the price of the normal Philips' bulbs.

Seeing as the US dollar is pretty weak against the British pound, I don't think I'll be ordering from powerbulbs.com. Just looking at chromed signal bulbs (no size was mentioned) they're £26.95 ($44.93 USD/$60.65 CAD) -- EXPENSIVE!! Shipping should be free anywhere in the world for that price!
