    installing power windows?

In Canada, the Corolla S 2003+ has power windows as on option which include things you don't want like power sunroof, cruise control, ABS, for 3000$CAD which is very expensive...

I was wondering if it's possible to install power windows buying the parts either from toyota or from a scrapped S, like the 4 motors, wires, the 4 interior doors panel, buttons, etc, and installing it by yourself, can cost less than 3000$CAD for sure!!!

I don't know why Toyota Canada choose to put power window in a pack option, but it looks like "brute sale"... you want the power window? right it's 3000$CAD!!!!!!!

    ggggrrrrrrr

hey if you ever get a answer to this let me know what it is...I want to do the same thing. When I had the doors apart for speaker installation I saw no wiring for power windows. So it must be a add-on harness, not sure where it would plug in. Was thinking of hitting the local boneyard and asking if I can pull all the stuff out myself, so I know where it all goes back in.

I called Toyota Canada to tell them I am not happy with the fact to take a 3000$CAD pack option just to have a what? 400$ power windows + things I do not want... they told me they forwarded my complaint to the "Product Planification Division" because they are listening from their customers and were sorry I was unhappy with their option pack for the Corolla S.

So if a lot of people complain that they want power windows as a factory default on their Corolla S, maybe they will put them. But as the Corolla 2004 is already out, it could be only for the 2005 model :(

But the idea of ripping the stuff from a totalled 2003 S is still good I think, and cheaper than 3000$CAD for sure

I think both you guys are dreaming if you think you can put this togther for les than $2000. Most boneyards wont have a 03 corolla in it, and the ones that do usually sell them to a auto body shop with a salvage title and they fix it. You would need to buy the whole wrecked car to get the peices you want.

Personally I wanted all the options that came with that package so I got them. Its also much esier to do it as one big package rather than having 40 different variations of corolla S running around. Its probably not cost effectove to do it that way, and if they did do it I bet the base price for the car would increase to cover all the extra costs of programming the robots at the p[lant to ony put in certain options. SO instead of paying $3000 for the whole thing, the base price of the car will go up $2,000 and then they will charge you $1000 for the p windows.

Let us know how your hunt goes.

but i agree about the power windows. for example my dad had one bad experience with the sunroof in one of his older cars so now he's totally agains them and if the case mentioned above is how it is, he wouldn't get the Power windows. it is a pretty basic option and would be ok. i can undersand if they threw the spoiler, sunroof and actory alloy's in one package, that's how it is here in Michigan, and then the PDL and PW are one package which makes sense.

I can convert your cranksters into Power Windows for less than $100 USD. Been there, Done that (in my 92 Camry) :p

    Check out this kit:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6763&item=2416506610

I have installed BOTH an aftermarket SPAL kit and a Toyota OE Power Window Regulator (not on 03 Rollas though) and I should say that the Aftermarket works better and faster but the OE kit is a tad bit easier to install.

If you decide to go ahead and do this project, you will also need a Momentary switch (Normally Open DPST pushbutton) to activate the motors. Let me know if you do and I will give you more details.

    Good luck :p

XTM, do you know if this kit can be used with a Toyota OEM window switch panel?

yes you should be able to use the oem toyota power window handle. All you need is any momentary switch. With this kit it just slips in behind the door and turns the exisitng crank knob. then they get you to plug the door handle hole up with that "safety" knob so that you can still manually turn it.

Its a good solution for guys that want power windows without all the cost. But it deff wont look OEM after its in. I mean youll still have a knob on the knob hole. plus if you cant find the oem switches you will need to do a pretty good hack job of the arm rest. But in the end its much better than nothing

On a side note I also noticed a guy on ebay has the power window assembly for one of the doors on the rolla. Its just the bracket and motor, and he want $50 for it.

I was thinking about that, having the origional window crank stup sticking out of the door after this kit. Wonder if one can mix parts between the kit and the OEM parts...e.g. use the OEM gears without the manual stub with the motor and electronics from the kit.

This is becoming a Pandora's box. But it should be nice when it's all worked out.

if you get your hands on the oem door cover with no hole for the windows you could prolly shave off the excess on the turny part so its all concelaed. But again, I think you will be looking at order from toyota, and for 4 panels it will take you over $1000 right quick!

Mabye a small rubber cap over the hole is in order?
