Speaker Level input for the amps

When I was about to hook up the amps by using the speaker level inputs, I came to a question and stopped...

    1. Hook up amp using rear speaker wires for speaker level input.
    2. Disconnect rear speakers from the HU.
    3. Hook up rear speakers to the amp.

Question is: Will the amp still be able to use the speaker level input? In theory, both the positive and the negative are hooked up so the electricity will flow. But will too much electricity flow since there are no speakers (friction) and blow the HU? I'm not so familiar with speaker level input...

Nope. That's the way they're meant to be hooked up.

    now
I bought a low-level adaptor with rca's and used the low level inputs on the amp to run my sub.

The answer depends on what kind of amp you are using. If you have an amplifier with Speaker Level Inputs, (like MTX Thunder amplifiers for instance) then the answer is YES you can directly connect those wires that you took off from the rear speakers.

IF your amp does not have Speaker Level Inputs (ie. US Amps, etc) Then you *MUST* use the RCA Preouts from your HU (also known as "Line Out")

I have Kicker 37.5WX2 and Kenwood 30WX4 and they both have speaker level input. But I'm going to use the RCA converter because the guy at the store said RCA converter gives clearer sound than the built in speaker level input.

Interesting he said that. Seems since the amps already have a built-in speaker level to line level converter, you'd avoid any potential mis-match between a external one and the amps' line level inputs. And you'd avoid the noise cables between the external converter and the amps input could pick up. And any potential ground-loop issues between the external converter's power and the amps power.

I like the KISS system, avoid as many things to screw with the signal as possible.

03ToeyMan. What you say makes more sense than what the guy at the store said. He said external converter outputs cleaner sound because it's a lot bigger than the built-in converter. After I heard your comment, I will just use the built-in ones. I guess that guy at the store just wanted to sell more stuff.... That sucks...
