    Horn Upgrade DIY

I hate the winpy sound of the horn on these cars. I was in the process of tearing apart my Audi to sell the parts when I relized I could transplant the horn from it to my Rolla. Here's how its done.

    Parts You Need:

    Horn
    Small peice of wire
Metak mounting bracket of some sort
    a couple Blue Wire taps
    Bolts
    Wrench
    Pliers

    Time it takes:
    About 5 - 15 minutes

    Procedure:

Its really easy, pick a spot where you want to mount the horn. The one I have needs to be horizontal to work so I used a metal bracket and bent it to mount the horn on. See the pic below for where I mounted it

The hole I used to bolt it to was already there. I did scrape the paint away from behind the bracket. I did this because I wanted to use the ground on the chasis instead of running a wire all the way back to somewhere else.

Once the horn is mounted you just need to tap into the original horn wire. Use a blue tap connector and attach it as shown below. Now when you press the horn button you will have the old weak sound as well as a great old HUGE car sound.

I find that I use my horn much much more now

Do you know if anyone makes an aftermarket horn for the Corolla? It would be nice to be able to just replace the stock one.

ToyMan, those horns look nice, but when you can go to a wrecker and get 2 horns off an old caddy for $5 it just doesnt compare. I was thinking of getting the air horns, but I heard in winter they dont work so good.

Kinda like when you eat a cracker and try to wistle.

Stinkey, I hear ya. Back when I built my Charger I went to the boneyard and asked the guy at the desk what the loudest horns ever put on a American automobile were. He said 76 Cadillac ElDorado. I bought two. I'd hit that horn button and slow down the car!

That Web site (Goit's Garage) has some pretty nifty stuff. I bought the autobahn mirror. It REALLY helps in this Rolla, the B coloum is WAY thicker than my last car. They're overpriced tho.

Interesting to see how you mounted your trumpets. I bought a set of Fiamm horns, could not for the life of me figure out a decent way to mount all three of them without boring holes somewhere. Went with the Hella horns instead.

People here (and I imagine elsewhere too) have a problem with kids getting out of school and walking right down the middle of the road. I can't wait for the next gang...I'll make the little bastages pee themselves while running.

I think you should look at changing out that mesh for the stuff in my DIY though. I can see those horns right through it. Almost looks like there is no mesh there at all. It may be just the pic but I doubt it. If you hid those I think it would look better. imho

Akira, I was trying to get all 3 trumpets to fire forward thru the grill. After seeing yours I'm thinking it would be a better idea to have them fire downward, so they don't fill with rain, snow, bugs, spiky-headed-punk-walking-down-the-middle-of-the-street guts, etc.

Maybe I'll put them in and still leave the Hellas in. Hellas would still fire forward, horns downward. Relay is a 30-amp, so it should handle it. Should make for a interesting noise.
