    Supercharged S VS XRS

I am looking into either getting the Corolla S with a TRD supercharger or a XRS.
I was wondering which one would be fast and/or better because after the supercharger and S is at the same HP as the stock XRS.

The only Corolla that is SCable are the 03/04. And you can only get it used nowadays. You need to make sure you get one in good condition. If I were you, I would choose the XRS, no BS here. The XRS is so cool. A sport tuned suspension and the 6-speed tranny. A regular S just cant beat that. Plus when Lift kicks in, you are like driving a whole different car. But I have to admit, 1zz is much more easier to mod. And after you SCed it, you can still do a lot to it. And after that, it can beat an XRS pretty easy.

The s/c'd S is quicker than the XRS, but from what I hear the XRS will pull harder above 80ish. The s/c'd S has alot more torque, which is the important number to me. Lift is cool, but the supercharger is basically "full time lift", the XRS needs to rev up above 6grand before it really creates power.

In defense of the XRS, it does have alot more options... especially the 4 wheel disc brakes and a 6 speed tranny and a tighter suspension.

Every timeslip I've ever seen for a turbo'd Rolla is slower than both... hmmm. Also, give a few g's... about $1000 more

you have to also take into account a driver factor on that. a super charger is immediate boost, while a turbo takes time to spool. if a driver of a turbo charged car doesnt know how to launch, its over before it began...

and for the record... i've raced a supercharged s and well lets just say he refused to pull up next to me at the next light due to the whippin i gave him.

I'll agree with you big time on the turbo / s/c driver there. It really depends a lot on the driver, how they handle shifting and launch

this is a s/c vs. XRS thread... leave it to the turbo guys to get pissie and hijack the thread.

Newsflash... turbo's arent any better than a strong motor or a blower, its all in what you want out of it.

OF course not. No one is saying a turbo can beat a stong motor.
Take my neighbor for example. He had (recently his borther totaled it) a very ice turbo'd crx with an engine swap. That thign was fast. stupid fast. put out about 350+wph.
However, the car that his dad just finished restoring, a '69 charger r/t, with a new engine puts out about 500whp and just KILLED the CRX, even with the ton of extra weight.

I've had both a turbo and a supercharger so im not turbo hatin'... but the supercharger is just alot more fun to drive. I think its the instant torque.

Well if I manage to get enough time and enough money to drive out to see dr.tweak for some surgery, installing a new 4agze into my 96, i'll let you all know how the supercharger feels in such a light car.

So you're not selling your car and get a crx/civic anymore milhousse?

About the SC vs XRS, I will get the XRS coz I love the 4 wheel disc brake and 6 speed. :D
    And I like NA more.

It's really up in the air. looking at a couple crx's, have a couple engines to put in if I want.

im just bought a supercharger for my 03 and i cant wait to get it in and feel the boost.. but if i had to do it nowadays i would prolly buy the XRS... i got the chance to ride in one at a MO meet in toledo. those cars sound sweet and i have a feeling that moding them is going to get cheaper and cheaper as time goes on and people find new things they can do to em.

its not the expensive part that sucks about modding the XRS... its the support. No one supports the 2zz motor and it baffles me why??

Honestly, I dont think its going to get any better in the future. If they wanted to support it they would have done something with it when it initially hit the Celica GT-S

    Ryan,

From what I've read about the XRS vs the S...just get the XRS. Granted it may not be as fast as a S/C S, but think about the two features that you won't have to do yourself. 4 Wheel Disc brakes, and a 6 speed transmission.

And just to make yourself really stand out...rip the motor out of it...and stick something else in. You could always get crazy and shove my IForce V8 in there. :D Talk about torque.

Lol Andy, I think I would just 350 swap my blazer if I wanted to go through that much trouble.
But yea, I think I would go with the XRS because the S/C will probably come out sooner or the same time as the 05 S S/C since they changed the throttle to eletric.

Recently a race between Supercharger Corolla S with header/exhaust/intake (al6176) and Corolla XRS with intake/exhaust (BIO) at 9thgencorolla.com happened:

    http://www.9thgencorolla.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3227&start=0

S/C'ed rolla took the XRS off the line up to 70 mph and after that XRS pulled away from the S/C'ed rolla. Modded, there have been timeslips well in the 14 secs for both Corolla XRS and S/Céd rolla so it really boils down to strong low end torque fun vs very high revving 8400 rpm fun. I personally love the sports motorbike/F1 racing car fun.

For me I dont like the XRS, you can make a CE stick to have more power and 4 wheel disc brakes it only cost like $800 a kit and for the supercharger header and CAI like $3200 you may want a new muffler for people to here the great sound it makes it will make 250 flywheel hp for sure and totally smoke an XRS and most CEs cost from $8000 used and about 13-15 thousand brand new depending on the options if i where you ill get a used one thats been cared by the owner and mod it to the max.

But the XRS also has a lot more luxury features than a CE, which is important to some people (me)... it all depends on what you want in your car, because, yes, you could make a CE faster than an XRS for less money than i cost to buy the XRS...

Faisal just spoke about the race that Bio and I had. And like Polo708 has said in the past, many times it is a drivers race. If you read the thread, I took him the first time up to about 75 and the second time from a stop he took me. I love my sc'd S but I would love to have that top end power. I would go with the XRS and save up because I am sure that eventually there will be an affordable FI kit for the XRS.

you can open up the top end of the blower. All u need is an injector controller (either the one from URD like I have or the AIC1 from split second). The problem is that the stock piggyback computer is set to run an a/f ration of 10:1 at WOT. That is way too much fuel but its needed to cool the exhaust gas temps. If you are running water injection to cool the intake air temps then you can lean out the a/f ratio (take away fuel) and get it around 12:1 to gain back that lost power. My top end is wonderful, I bet I could easily pull on an XRS in lift. Then again I have alot of motorwork done, so it isnt exactly stock vs stock.
