looking for a small decent digicam

hey ya. i have a gateway dv-s20 4in1 mpeg4 camera and a fuji finepix s3100 4MP camera. i love how small the gateway is, but it takes terrible pics unless your outside in bright sunlight. i love the fuji finepix, except that it's big! it wouldn't fit in mc hammer's pockets.

here is the fuji finepix i have
    http://tinyurl.com/9bymt

    here is the gateway digicam
    http://tinyurl.com/87j33

if i could take the smallness of the gateway and the awesome picture taking of the fujifilm and combine it in one camera...that would be awesome.

i'm looking to get a smaller camera, under $300, maybe with some type of zoom, preferably optical. needs to take good lowlight pics and closeup pics. i don't really care about shooting video. needs to fit in your pocket nicely.
any suggestions? maybe with test shots...thanks!

i'm willing to spend a little more to get this:
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...d=I31NHDOKUYPKFH&v=glance&colid=32B3DQ7ST99JH

some of the sellers are selling it for $300 brand new.

the lotus wasn't show ready at that point...the guy had JUST driven into town ;)

i can also say the Kodak will stand up to a bit of abuse. mine's been dropped/rained on a few times and hasn't given me any problems.

The Canon SD110 Powershot Elph is a great small camera.
I've had it for 2 years. It has a metal body. Very durable, reliable...

the cannon PowerShot A75 is great and fits in my pocket Lots of options for such a low price. I got my camera for $118 w/ shipping from ebay. Works well and reliable. 10x optical zoom and then you can have digital zoom on top of it. 3.2 megapix and so far it's put out some great quality pictures.

i checked them out at best buy today. the canon elph sd200 won my heart. i liked the sd 300, but i didn't like the pricetag. only problem is that i went on amazon to check out some reviews of it. turns out that the lcd screen is very fragile and at least 7 people have complained that it has cracked on them.

I love the A75. All the Canon Powershot line is great. I had a A60 before the 75, and still have it. ALso, I think its a big plus that it takes AA batteries.
BTW its not 10x optical zoom.

    Get a nikon or canon.

stay the hell away from fuji - really crappy battery life
and sony - not so great picture quality, and expensive memory sticks.

well, i don't have to worry about battery life. i have the rayovac 15 min rechargable batteries, my fuji eats them and so does the gateway piece of crap, but i can charge them up again right away and i have plenty extra.
the sony sticks aren't too expensive- amazon has sony memory pro 256 megs for $40 or sandisk memory stick pro for $35. hmm, no complaints on quality or reliabilty.

rolla02, you have the coolpix 3200 right? how well is it in lowlight and closeup shots? also, how does the LCD screen look in bright sunlight? i was checking out that one at best buy too, very nice and tiny, but i was looking for something with a little bigger screen, but since it's under $200, i could sacrifice that and just spend the left over money on a huge memory card.

In lowlight if you use the night mode, great pics. Close-up pics are great, has a great zoom feature.

Yea the screen is a little small and in really bright situations the screen can seem washed out.

alright, i think i'm set. nikon 4600 4MP camera it is (doesn't record audio with the video, but who cares), from amazon, through J&R music and computer world.
    price- $179.99
    shipping - $7.00.
    no tax.
    total - $186.99

ok, next camera i need is one under $150 for my girlfriend, something easy to use, maybe it can take a little abuse, takes decent pix and has a decent amount of onboard memory

I was in the market for a digicam not too long ago. And after many hard decisions, I ended up with the Canon A95

Many friends that work for an electronic store told me they got a lot of returns of Sony digicams. I was considering the W5 but I don't think it's worth the high price tag.

So I was down to either Canon A95 or Nikon Coolpix (I forgot which one ... but I think it was the 5600)

They both are great cameras and have many great reviews.

But I found the A95 for $255 with free shipping at Dell.com so I decided with the Canon A95.

In fact I think the sale is still going on at Dell's :D

ps: I believe the Canon A95 takes better pictures than Nikon Coolpix in indoor/low light area. And the A95 does records audio ;)

I have a sony digicam, and I used to have a fuji finepix, both were great cams, the sony one is awesome, i took it big mountain snowboarding with me in subzero temps and actually was taking pictures while going down the hill, took ALL the abuse, and it was huge abuse, the memory sticks are fine, sony has one of the best memory sticks. Sony has been in the memory stick game longer than most of these companies out there, they have refined their stuff. The memory sticks are also cross compatible, so if you ever buy a sony bigsreen, or computer, or stuff like that, there is no need for usb or video cables, just stick the memory stick right in the TV or computer slot......its quite handy

I've had a fair share of camera's to play with over the years.
Had a fuji finepix 4700 (something like 4.3 or 5.1MP interpolated - for 5 years ago, it was a great deal at $400 or something). Fairly good camera. Great macro, excellent for outside, but the lens pops out of the main body and isnt all that stable on it's own, so I never too it snowboarding or anywhere it would get knocked around.
Most of the powershot line is fairly decent. Good picture quality, uses CF cards, which are cheap and good. Take a bit of abuse but not all that much
By far my favorite for being on a hill snowboarding, or wakeboarding (NOT while doing it lol) is one of the sony cybershot camera's. The lens does not protrude from the body (on most of not all of the models), good picture quality, memory stick for storage, not tiny, but a fair size. Only real drawback is that the macro isn't the best on some of the models
