    Blacked-out headlights 8.5 gen

One day, I noticed that the seals on my blinkers were disintegrating. So yesterday, I pulled off the whole front bumper to get them out, and decided to black out the blinkers AND the headlights while everything was apart.

Though the task is complete, I don't think I'll ever try it again. Melting the seals around the headlights was a pain. It was all much easier when i broke down and used a blowtorch :D

If anyone else wants to do this (rather than buying a pre-blacked set), I'll be more than happy to answer any questions.

That was actually one of my first mods I did on my car. The headlights stayed nice and clear for all 7 years I had it.

The headlight is actually really easy compared to an accord or civic since it is smaller. You have to throw it in the oven and pretty much bake the headlight. You can find more details online, just search google.

The corners on the other hand were a bit more complicating.. you have to break the seal carefully without cracking the lense by using a flat head. The rest is easy.

Nope, a common hairdryer. Took me 2.5 hours to get the seals apart, and some were bent beyond fixing (with the hairdryer). When I put them back together, I used a blowtorch to soften the edges and press them into place. I don't have a heat gun, and the oven seemed too risky.

The seals on my corners were already broken. In fact, my corners popped apart as I was gently pulling them out of the car. The whole reason I undertook this project was because I needed to glue the corners together before they fell off. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. And with easy access to the headlights, I decided to go ahead and black out all of my lights.

Yea, if it weren't already broken it would have been tough. Perfect timing like you said.

many thanks for the compliments on the lights. My headlights are a little hazy, though. Nothing a little sanding and polishing won't fix. Any suggestions on UV protection after I clear up the lights? Every time I clear them up, they re-oxidize pretty quickly.

Head lights look good! That's why I always say to DIY, it is possible, rather than spend $50 (or $200 lol)

So you're admitting to being a different person depending on who you're around?

I admitted that long ago, I always cater to who I'm with. But that has nothing to do with this conversation lol. Corolla owners love saving money, so I recommend painting head lights black instead of buying them for no other reason. Heck, I even did that to my IS lights.
