I wouldnt go with a SRI for the Corolla it just points over by the exhaust manifold which = Hot Air Intake.. Talk to Rollatuner he can sell ya an ELP CAI for around the price you will pay for a Weapon-r SRI if its still up for sale.. not sure if hes selling it with the car or not.

the price/benefit ratio for the ELP's for sale is not worth it AT ALL.

get a weapon-r they are shorter then the e-bay ones so you wont get as much heat soak from the header.

I wouldn't mind getting a CAI but then again its gonna be easier for it to get damaged by water, rocks and random stuff I may kick up by my tires no?

It's the same price as other companies who make CAI's. I wouldn't get any short ram/air intake. It will still get heat soak. The best deal is to get a drop in filter.

Not true. The filter is still protected all around by the rain guards. You won't get hydrolock unless the entire filter is submerged in water. Unless your car is in a flood, it won't happen.

no one makes cai's for the 8th gen anymore. so you dont have anything to compare with. dont make me dig up that post from toyotanation proving that sri's are worth it. just make it so it doesnt soak up AS much heat from the header as multiple people have done. it will save you an assload of money.

Also depends on how the setup is designed - not all CAI and SRI perform as they should. Some CAI/SRI give nice gains thoughout the powerband, others are "peaky" in power gains for the same application.

In most cases, the typical CAI will loose a little low-end power and have a slightly laggy throttle response. The SRI tends to have a bigger power gain in the middle of the powerband - that coupled with better breathing from a freer flowing filter + usually quite a bit cheaper, makes it a good choice for a daily driver.

The extra noise associated with the intake can be a pain in some cases - but some don't mind at all. I've run both the Injen CAI and Injen SRI and a aftermarket panel filter. Noise-wise, it went from CAI, to SRI, to panel (loudest to quietest). Throttle lag went from CAI, to SRI, to panel (most noticeable to least noticeable) - though the panel and SRI were really close. Compared to the CAI - the lag was quite significant.

Another option - if you want something that looks stock, quiet, and zero chance of CEL (assuming that you did not over oil the oil-type filters - a free-flow panel filter is a good choice.

I'm running both the dry-type (AFE-Matrix) and oil-type (K&N-Corolla) for my cars, currently. They both do a good job, relatively easy to clean, OEM like fitment, and UOAs are spot on perfect (some claim to have seen a huge increase in silicon contamination, but mine didn't change, hardly at all). The oil types are little more of a pain - I keep a paper one on hand when I clean the other filter. That way, I can spend my time cleaning and re-oiling it correctly, MAF sensor and intake track to TB show zero build up. Sure it is not as nice to look at as an aftermarket intake - but I'll save that route when I can make sure the car can make the most gains from such an intake (ie. TB boring, headwork, engine management system, etc.).

    Question @ Fishexpo101:

what is an aftermarket panel filter? :pokeowned

Is it just an aftermarket filter instead of the OEM filter?
