Squeaking noise

Squeaking noise

When i am sitting at a stop light I hear a squeaking noise coming from under the hood however it seems to go away as i accelerate. This only happens when i am in drive though because if i put the car in park and check under the hood there is really no noise. Well i figured it was the belt or a loose pulley however this is not the case. Does anybody have an other ideas, by the way it is a 2001 corolla le. Thanks

i remeber having the same problem before and i think i sprayed wd40 on the crank pulley and alternator pulley afterward it went away,it only happen on cold weather.

change oil?

my car has the same problem... but mine is worst. it squeaks really loud on rainy days and every morning on cold days.

I have the same problem, but I looked it up on Toyotanation I think.

One guys says that it's not belt tensioner, but the belt tensioner pulley. So you can apparently buy the new pulley for less than $20. It seems that most people responding to him either had the bad pulley or a bad belt.

Funniest thing is all the corollas in my town have this problem. I pass 3 (98-05) every morning, and on the cold and/or moist mornings, we're all squealing something awful.

It doesn't get on my nerves too much, otherwise I'd have replaced the pulley and/or the belt by now.

did any of you guys try my free method spraying wd40 or any lubricated spray on the crank pulley and the alternator!!!???

Nope. But my car hasn't squeaked in the past few days. Next time I catch it squeaking, I'll give your method a shot.

This evening turned out to be one of those squeaky moments. I grabbed the can of WD-40 and sprayed every pulley in sight until the squeaking stopped. Turns out it was the alternator pulley.

I'll be sure to put this knowledge to good use. One of my teachers has a squeaky Matrix and my neighbor has a squeaky Corolla, too!

yeah it does sound like it comes from the alternator thanks i will deffinitely try that.
