    Help w/ Engine Damper?

I was looking into getting an engine damper since it seems like a lot of trouble to window weld the engine mounts of a 98-01 rolla engine mount. But my biggest issue right now is space... case in point there isn't any that i can see where i can mount the damper... so I was hoping others have gone this route and had pointers as to where i can mount it. I've got cruz control and ac so those are the things getting in my way as of right now. especially the ac lines, however i'd like to keep the ac and c.c.? pictures would be freak'n sweet too. thanks

You might be able to find urethane engine mount inserts for your generation, still floating around. A damper will work much better with stiffer engine mounts than without. With stock mounts, most end up snapping off or shattering a fabricated mounting point for the damper.

Only cases with OEM dampers in place and relatively modest power levels - will a damper be used with stock mounts. Usually because they can optimize the loading characteristics.

Most aftermarket applications - you usually can only get a corner of the engine and maybe something close to a strut or somewhere on the firewall. The lever arm in that respect is quite high - you would need one hell of a bracket to stand up to even regular daily driving.

I'd look for inserts first (I've got Energy Suspension inserts on both my cars - Corolla for almost 5 years, the Matrix had in for about 2 years - both are standing up very well). If that doesn't pan out - then try filling the mount with urethane or similar. Jumping up to a damper straight from the beginning will cost more and provide less reliable results - unless you have a fantastic fabricator on hand. Even, tough to design from scratch.

Speak of the devil. I'm retrofitting one to fit today in fact. I have an engine damper from a civic at hand. Fishexpo is right about dampers failing with stock engine mounts. I'm running on custom polyurethane mounts from speed-source. I know the engine damper won't fail on me now since the motor hardly moves now.

i've been on the lookout for inserts but i don't seem to be finding any. and i've heard that working with window weld is a pain, but i guess that's what it'll come down to in the end. i was really hoping a damper would do the job.

They don't make engine mount inserts for our year. You have to have them custom made like I did. Check out Speed-source.
