Tech Multiple RAM speeds on one board?

Multiple RAM speeds on one board?

Is that possible? Would the board compensate and equal them out? Im asking because one of my boards got fried and I have a spare 512 pc3200 (400mhz)stick laying around..

My board currently has 2gig pc2700 (333mhz).

It should be fine. I'm also running odd speeds.

RAM is very sensitive. You should use the same speeds, voltage, and brand to be safe. I had 2 GB of ram, and then added another 2 GB but it was a different voltage and my computer took a crap. So I wouldn't suggest it.

I think voltages are the same for these sticks... I also ran different speed sticks once before and didnt have a problem... Im just double checking. I know we have some CS peeps here.

if you use pc3200 and pc2700 together, your computer will only run at 2700 since that is the bottleneck or most resistance in the path and not see speeds at 3200. Otherwise, it should run fine.

ram isnt that sensitive anymore. as plu said, it will take the speed of the lower and auto adjust to that. when a board says it supports 3 speeds it means you can run any of those. unless you are overclocking, same voltage isnt needed since it also auto adjusts.

as long as you run them both @ the slowest ram speed, there should not be any problems

and it will automatically throttle them to the lower speed.
