    DIY: warm air intake

    What? a warm air intake??

YES. Why? Because you get quite a few benefits with only a few downsides.. and it's free!!!

    Benefits:
Better gas mileage in cold weather
awesome sound similar to a real CAI, high whine from the air filter box that sounds like squirrels being mashed
Less weight in your car (under 1lb less)
    scare the neighbors
no issues with oil in your MAF/map sensor.

    Downsides:
Power or lack of when the engine is hot

    Instructions:

    1. Pull the battery.
    2. remove the airbox assembly from your car.
    3. remove intake pipe that leads from the resonator to the airbox, proceed to wear it as a hat or scare your cat with it
    4. reassemble car.

there ya have it! 70% of the sound, -5% of the performance of the real thing, 0% of the price!

yup. and I can't believe it actually worked. I know this sounds ridiculously stupid but when they start putting additives in gas for the winter and cause peoples gas mileage to fall, this could be the thing to compensate for it.

OR you could fabricate piping that leads to your fender well, buy one of those 2 psi electric superchargers that's like 50 bucks and connect it all. Cold air intake with a 2 Psi supercharger whine beneath your hood and none of the noise, all of the power.

    Electric superchargers don't work.

I know this is kind of an old thread, but the first thing that should be removed is the giant heavy plastic intake resonator in the fender! Take that out and leave the snorkel, then the snorkel is sucking air from the fender (colder).
Even if you are taking out the snorkel, the resonator should definitley go for weight/stupidness.
