Full update on my 2001 Prizm

Hello all, for those of you who know me from vvti.net forums, I'm happy to see guys still into corolla stuff. For all others, this is EdMo from vvti.net, owner of a 2001 Chevy Prizm (Corolla Clone). It has 151K on it and it used to burn a quart of oil per 300 miles (Holy crap!). So finally after 9 months of a sucky paying job, I managed to save enough money to get all this done in Miami, by a mechanic who was on the crew of Juan Pablo Montoya (or at least claims so, has pix and stuff all over the shop). $7500 later, I have my car with

1 brand new reman Jasper vvti engine for the rolla with new plugs, water pump, all connecting hoses, new S-Belt etc etc.
1 brand new A/C compressor (mine blew out)
1 brand new dryer and all necessary junk to fit it in
1 pair of brand new front break rotors
1 pair of OEM front break pads
1 pair of rear break shoes with resurfaced drums
1 brand new master cylinder (this was crap too)
1 brand new blower motor resistor (no more speeds 1 and 4, now I have 1,2,3,4 lol)
    Tranny fluid and filter change
Antifreeze flush and change (with the new engine)
Of course the oil change (with the new engine)
    4 brand new Sumitomo tires
    Picture Perfect Wheel alignment
1 brand new Magnaflow cat (this was clogged for the second time with the old engine's oil burn)
Super cleaned fuel injectors, air intake, exhaust header
Fully lubricated shocks and other junk

This is all I can recollect so far, will update if I remember more, and will post some pix after I wash it. I'm not sure if DrunkSaru from vvti is stll around, but I remember he loves bone stock cars in good shape. If he's still here, he'll love my car now...lol

    EDIT:

Added new engine mount too (passenger side)

WOW. TWO THUMBS UP FOR YOU.:thumb::thumb: That's brave of you to stick with the Prizm/Corolla, most people would have probably sold the car.

Post some photos if you can. BTW, DrunkSaru is still here.

Welcome to Miami! Funny story is the punk gave me an estimate of roughly 6800, but when he billed me, he added FL tax, his own tax, his neighbors tax, hazmat dispo, and a ton of other crap!

I know. I love this car. Very reliable and driving is a pleasure. I wanted to do a lot with it but its getting too expensive so kinda givin up on that for now, will just take care of it. Also, my wife is in love with it so this is practically her car now. Hopefully in the near future I will make enough money to buy a real Corolla (and rollatuner will succeed in world domination by selling ELPCAI clones :)) and I can get back into having fun with cars again. Pix comin up as soon as I return to IN (3 days left)...
Thanks man, good to be back!

Also, good to know DrunkSaru is still here!

Jasper reman came with a 3yr 100K nationwide parts and labor warranty against any manuf (or remanuf) defects, but yea I'm keeping my fingers crossed! NO MORE LEAKS!
Yea, I should have, I hope my experience helps other....

    Jinxed! Big time

My life sux!! and Miami sux worse! :mad:Got in an accident this morning, with a non-english speaking old lady who busted my passenger side door when I was making a left turn into the leftmost lane and she jumped three lanes at once! from the right most to my left most! She did not wanna call the cops and I could not understand a word of Spanish, so I let go of her. She barely got a scratch on her hefty Oldsmobile 50 feet long car. Takin it to the body shop tomorrow, will try and get some pix (cell phone quality, thats all I have right now). Dang this sux...

I wouldn't have let her go either - call the cops, the'll have an interpreter - you were in the right, so no worries there. She pleaded to not have the cops show up - could be no insurance or worse. Doesn't speak english - chances are, she speaks english just fine, just hopes that you will let her go.

Now I'd be worried about a phone call or visit from someone claiming their "client" was injured because YOU cut them off. May not happen - but you always have to CYA first.

    Really no joke, personal experience:

My wife was rear ended (my car) at a toll booth by a lady in BMW. Light damage at the car, scared her pretty good - worse thing was my son (3 yrs old)was in the back seat in his carseat. Fortunantly, we got one of those go-to-hell super carseats - looks more like an F1 / fighter jet seat. Wife called the cops - nothing they could do since it was on private property. Cop made sure that they both surveyed the damage (wife had a disposable camera + her digital one), traded contact numbers, insurance info, got license plate numbers, conditions of accident, weather, etc. etc. Car was inside the toll booth at the time - so it was pretty clear who was at fault - just no report could be drawn up on this, no citation either. I told her to get a lawyer (just to CYA) and call the insurance company ASAP. Not a week later - someone from the other insurance company tried to collect damages from my wife because she CUT the other lady off at the toll booth. Both the insurance company stepped in, other insurance company blew them off, lawyer jumped in - bang!, took care of that problem. In the end VA state law has a funny policy / wording on concerning "at fault" - even though it was 100% the other lady's fault (insurance company determines this - private property issue = big problem here, since there was no report), if there was any chance of shifting blame to the other driver - then you have a "no fault" accident, ie. everyone pays for their own damages. We could have pursued it futher - but the costs would have exceeded the damage done to the car.

The only way I would have let her go is if she paid me on the spot.

True, she would have probably given you a couple of hundred bucks just to let her leave, but man I hope the estimate isn't too much.

I wouldn't have let her go on a couple hundred. I would demand 4-500 on the spot if she had no insurance. Otherwise, I'd call the cops.

That is true, with a couple of hundred its not worth it, I would've call the cops cause I wouldn't want to pay for someones mistake and his insurance would probably go up

Got a junk yad door in place for the time being. Looks like shit but holds. About the lady, I know all you guys are mad at me for letting her go, but I'm sorry I got a soft heart. I couldn't help but notice how old she was and I'm pretty sure she did not have insurance (Miami is expensive as hell). She almost broke into tears when I said Police. If I had called the cops, it would have been trouble for her and I did not wanna do that.....sorry I suck.

If you can financially afford to pay for problems that other people cause you than that's your choice. But, if she doesn't want the involve the authorities, maybe she should stop driving around like a moron and learn some English.

An illegal immigrant driving a truck t-boned my friend in an intersection. My friend tried to resolve the issue with him and the guy tried to run away on foot since he had no insurance, couldn't speak English, and had no documentation, period. Luckily, there was a cop waiting at that same intersection who tackled the guy and handcuffed him. I mean it doesn't seem much different than what happened to you, except that you left her run away. I wouldn't feel bad at all to call the cops. You just let her drive off. Now she'll drive exactly like she was before and hit some other poor sap some other day. :( It's time to take these people off the streets before they really hurt someone.

I wouldn't of let her go either......she got lucky this time. Judging from her crossing 3 lanes to hit you and was not under the influence of anything, I really think she needs to get off the roads. She can really hurt someone in her next wreck.

No sense worrying about it now - what's done is done, water under the bridge. Fortunately, no one got hurt - and that is the most important thing. You picked up another door - so you are good to go.
