    wierd problem

So a few night ago, Im getting on the highway and just goin full throttle hittin the rev limiter oin every gear to come up to speed. It was just me alone but hadnt heard my intake at WOT in a while lol
Well as i approach 5k my HID's go off, just the HID's everything else was on like my interior lights, side lights and on my dash the battery sign comes up, then when i drove it normally, meaning under 5k everything was back to normal, i tried this a few times and the same result, what is goin on over 5k rpm's?? too much stress on the battery or something? also sometimes my belt makes this screaching noise when im pushing it hard, the belt is fairly new, dont know why its doing that

Your tensioner could be bad and not holding the belt in place properly. Your accessories belt drives the electrical components, so if it's not working properly, that could happen.

Just get a new one. That should pull the belt to the proper tightness.

well what happened was when i got around 5k rpm's my battery light came on. I was in third gear at the time. Also the screeching noise from the belt doesnt always come, but my HID's die as soon as the battery sign comes on my dash. Other thing is that what I did was turn my halogens on since my high beams are halogens and they were working perfectly fine, matter of fact everything was fine except for the HID's shutting down

Ohh... I misread. So it's just your HIDs? Hmm...

Have you tried just revving your engine at a stand still to 5k RPM? Did your battery light come on and your HID shut down?

    I didn't say do "n-bombs".

Just have your alternator and alternator belt checked.

sounds like your alternator imo....what you can do is start the car then disconnect the battery...if it dies your alternator just got pwned... GL

Uh... NO unless you want to fry the alternator on purpose. To test you alternator, use a voltmeter and compare it to the proper values.

guys, would it be the same alternator for a 1.6 and 1.8?? how bout manual vs auto?? like do any of this matter? its should be the same for 93-97 no matter what engine displacment it is or if its a auto or man, right?

so i need a new alternator and tensioner =(
any ideas where i can get em cheap? i saw them on ebay but i wanna be sure what i am getting is the right part
i cehcked car-parts.com they have some decently prices alternator around 40 or so, brand new is like 100 and then how do i search for a tensioner, like is it called a belt tensioner?

There are no diff between manual and auto. There may be difference between the 4A and 7A but I'm not sure.

The links you posted are for the timing belt tensioner. There is 3 tensioners. 1 for the timing belt, 1 for the water pump & power steering, and 1 for the alternator / AC compressor. You need the last one if you indeed do need it. It rarely gets changed.
