    Intake Noise

I have a Weapon R short ram intake in my car. Sometimes when i'm driving, it sounds like there some noise like metal rubbing on metal (high pitch). It only occurs when it's around 2000 rpm. I took it off tonight to check it and made sure none of the metal is rubbing on each other. Does anybody know what's wrong? Also i notice that part of the air filter plastic seem like it melted slightly....

Under acceleration, the intake will move and could rub on some protruding metal. Show a pic so we can better assess the issue. You might have to fabricate a bracket to mount the intake in place so it doesn't move.

My ELP hits the metal in the area where it starts to go into the wheel well at idle while in gear. Its just like a love tap though, gonna put a rubber grommet there or something.

I'm just gonna bring it in to the main Weapon R wearhouse in South San Francisco and see what's up. I've e-mailed them to see whether they can help me out and luckily they said yes.

Weapon R. LOL I haven't seen them make anything decent for a while now. btw, RAI or SAI just don't work. CAI is the only way to go.

The SRI for the 8th gens are positioned right where the header is and gets heat soak unlike the 7th gens. So on a 8th gen, it's pointless. Just stay stock.

What makes you think that they don't make any decent products?

Yes , CAI are insanely overated

The weapon r is a Short ram intake, for our corolla's, it isn't that great. The plastic on the filter is kinda melting. A piece of rubber came off when i had to put my stock one back on to get it smogged, but they replaced it for free. I've switch between the stock air filter and the sri, and you can definitely feel a difference.
I honestly think getting a cheaper one wouldn't matter, it works just as well. The Injen sri is overpriced.
I actually thought about selling my intake and doing the diy by h20hummer, but i just can't tell which parts to buy.

ive had my weapon-r on for 3+ years.

there is nothing wrong, its not melting or doing anything funky. its not rattling around in my engine bay. and there is a nice little hum at low rpms and idle...and at high rpms you can really hear the air flowing. you won't gain anything significant with the weapon-r or with a CAI unless you tune it. and even then a RAI would be better for our cars because if you were really inclined to race you wouldnt want the revs to drop too low. dont you watch initial D?there are videos of my car where you can hear the sound of the intake.

you can hear it at idle. yes thats my intake and not the exhaust because my exhaust is inaudible in cabin while at idle.

to effectively use the kit you have to relocate the battery. but yes it came with it. i dont use it though.

i think saberj was able to put angle the intake downwards...

Do you have pictures of your intake. I wanna see how your intake sits in your engine bay. Your exhaust sounds pretty loud on the inside. I believe you don't have a maf sensor in your 98 corolla. Please upload a pic or 2 of your intake if you can.
