so im thinking about getting me one, due to rising gas prices and the corolla is dead.

recently drove a honda cbr600rr. looking for something older and around maybe $3500-$4500 range. any recamendations. and keep it low in cc's, i dont trust myself with to much power.

If you don't want too much power, steer away from the Kawasaki ZX series, the Honda CBR series, the Suzuki GSX-R series and the Yamaha R series.

My personal two choices for good starting bikes with plenty of power for what they are:
    Honda 600F3/4I
    Yamaha YZF-600R

Wear your helmet and shiny side up!

the 600f4i is a stellar starter bike, as is the Ninja 500. i ride a Ninja. since the Ninjas have been around for 20 years, parts are readily available and they're easy to repair. you might be able to grab one on the cheap, maybe.

and no, you can't have mine.

finally, PLEASE get proper gear. budget about a grand for the right stuff (helmet, gloves, proper jacket, boots). check newenough.com for great prices and really good service.

no i dont sleep much with all the sexy partys i have...

lilbit, thnx for your input, i just went to the local honda motorsports and saw a used 2000 cbr600. guy said i could take it for $5000 cash but im broke, need financing so sucked

my friend used to have a 98 ninja sold it for $1500 i regret not getting it....

as for safety im thinking helmet is fine, since ill use it in stop and go traffic only, even thought by law you do not require a helmet if your over 18. i dont wanna brain my damage...

so you don't care about keeping your skin on your body. gotcha. are you going to be a real squid and ride without a license, as well?

you know, a buddy of mine used to ride without gloves...he said he stopped that when he got a bee embedded in his knuckles.

another friend of mine recently went down on her bike in "stop and go" traffic, and she's just finished 3 of 4 surgeries for a skin graft.

keep something in mind: there are two kinds of riders, those who have gone down and those who haven't yet. you WILL hit pavement, and it WILL hurt.

if you're going to be a moron and not wear the proper gear, that's up to you - don't come complaining when you go down.

please do. i intended to scare you - you NEED to have a healthy level of fear if you're going to ride. without it, you'll get cocky and you'll end up hurting yourself and potentially others.

look into the MSF course if you have little to no experience on a bike. it might just save your life.

I'm retarded enough there are days in the summer where I ride in just my helmet and gloves.

But, that's because I'm retarded, so you probably shouldn't listen to my opinion.

    With the exception of:
    WEAR. YOUR. HELMET.

They are hot, they are extremely uncomfortable in the heat. But I would rather need a couple skin grafts on my arms and back than have a gaping smash in my noggin.

    ---

And yeah, the 600F3I or F4I are good bikes. Lower gears make it very similar to my 600R. Plenty of power for putzing around town, and lots of cornering ability. Don't go too low. 250 Ninja is more like a scooter on steriods. 500 Ninja I would say is the best starter bike out there. The 250 is just so underpowered.

have you ridden the new 250, though? quite a few people are saying it's a great little around town bike...and it looks so much BETTER than the old ninjettes.

Haven't ridden one since I did some test riding back in '06.
Might have been my height and weight being 6'4 250+. It was doggy as hell. No guts at all.

the new one tops out at 80mph. ;) a friend of mine who's about your size rode one when he saw it in the dealer, and was impressed. he had an older one (maybe an 05?) then traded up to a 600, and now rides a ZX14.

Class highly recommended even if you have ridden. I have taken it a few times with friends to get them to go. Ninja 500 is a good beginner bike that will last you a while. Also I highly dought your Corolla can keep up with MY CBR1000RR.

new 250 only does 80? the old one could do 100mph :(

either way a 250 is a great way to start, I'd run out and buy one today if I didn't live at home. My parents refuse to let me have one.

here gi-joe's has a cruiser 250cc bike for $1500. cheap korean junk will be broken within a year. Google Hyosung

Hyosungs feel like crappy plastic toys you can buy at the grocery store. the metallic paint flakes off the plastic grips...disgusting.

think so. I saw a video a long time ago of an 03 model EX250F doing 100 on a cali freeway hanging with a mustang cobra cruising along.

and yeah, hyosung is a laugh. I know a guy that bought one and has already gone through 3 engines in 5K miles. So much time waiting for parts he bought a yami instead.
