    losing power

okay so i ignored it the first couple of times but it is starting to worry me now.

sometimes when im stopped at a stop sign and i accelerate, my car will sputter for a few seconds..it feels like its losing power and i can hear it sputtering the exhaust out. but then i rev it up some more and eventually runs alright again. it does it sometimes too when im slowing down and im almost at a stand still or this one time when i was on reverse to parallel park, my rpm was fluctuating.

    any ideas?

I had an issue with my plugs/wires once that did the same thing and go no code. The problem was it wasn't causing a complete misfire which didn't make it flag with the ECU. It was more like a retarded firing which caused sputtering and power loss from idle to 3200 rpms. It was a wierd one... when I finally checked my stuff out, I actually had a nice black tracer line up the side of one of my plugs.

oh wow, I'm almost due for an oil change (about 1k miles cus I do it every 5k since I use full synthetic).

am I alright to wait till then or is this something I should handle asap?

I really hope it is just spark plugs. and vortex, thats exactly what i am experiencing...when I get the rpm's up there it doesnt sputter anymore.

so I should get new plugs every 3rd oil change? I didnt know the interval was that low. lol

Depends on what replacement plug you have currently - the OEM Denso Iridiums are spec'd to last 120K miles. I changed mine at 90K and they still looked OK - but decided to change them anyway. Went with NGK Iridium IX plugs - smaller electrode diameter than the OEM ones - those plugs are only spec'd to last about 30K-60K miles.

Also, double check that your Coil on Plug modules are OK, not cracked or burnt or anything. Could be a case where one of the plugs got a little loose as well. I'd take a peek when you get a chance - depends on how quickly you can cover 1K miles, but I would recommend doing some quick diagnostic work. At the very least - pull the plugs to read them. If they are toasted - you can pickup another set of plugs and replace them when you change the oil.
