    Speaker Question

How do you know if you've blown a sub? is there a distint smell or something?

Just today I went into my car (was sitting in the sun all day) and turned the radio on and noticed the Bass Tube was not hitting like this morning. I go to the trunk and nothing. it was completely dead. the LED that lights up green wasn't even green.

Any ideas? I don't know if the built in amp is blown but the fuses are fine. I'd think the fuse would blow as well if it was the amp?

I also thought it was just too hot so I let it sit outside for a good 5 hours and i just went outside and it still wont' turn on.

if you take out the sub from the box and look at the coils, it should be fried.
but i dont know how you're gonna look at it, since its a bass tube.

is the amp turning on? i guess not since the green light wasnt on, i say check your wiring.
check the fuse near the battery, check to see if thats blown.
check every wire, make sure they're not touching any kind of metal.

did you check the fuse on your bass tube? if that's ok check the fuse that is in series with your power wire, assuming you put one, if not, it would be a good idea to put one. if there is still no power, you will need to do some troubleshooting, you will need a volt meter to check make sure you are getting 12 volts on your power pin and remote pin. Subs can be blown in different ways, sometimes you can smell them if they are burnt out. if you press on it, and it doesn't move at all, its blown shut, sometimes you will hear crackle on the subs when they are playing.

i guess you got too much boom... lol... (remember that other thread?) this happened to my bro's corolla too... but it wasnt a tube... he has a 12"... anyways, on his situation idk if the amp burned out or a fuse popped coz when he blasted it, out of no where it stopped... and when we touched the amp it was very hot...

I checked the fuse closest to the battery and its fine. the fuse on the amp itself is fine. The sub doesn't have a smell and when i press on it, everything moves in sequence..so it can't be the sub then. i guess i'll trouble shoot it and figure it out. i'm figuring that it has to be the power or ground. one of the two..

    thanks for the info!!

    hellapinoy..guess ur right..lmfao.

if the rem is connected it could be the amp itself. My rockford amp blew and I had to get it replaced. you can check it with a voltage meter. check everything with an voltage meter you will eventually find the open if there is

well after posting last night, I started to think that it may either be the remote wire or the ground. so this morning i put the bass tube back in the car. when i hooked it up again, no light came on. so i moved the wires and saw a lil red light come on and then go off. so i start checking the wires and when i get to the remote wire, i would squeeze on the connection and the tube would turn on and then turn off. when i took the electrical tape off the connection it had become loose. so now its working fine but i gotta redo the connection. Right now I have the lil claw looking like type of connection but looks like that won't work so i'm gonna do something else.

Thanks for all the help everyone! :) I got the BOOM back!! lmao.
