not bearings but still a problem

ok so my mechanic looked at my car yesterday he is almost 90% sure it isnt bearing in the bottom it sounds more up top and what he was able to gather without taking it apart that there are 2 possible problems one, i have heard of being that the belt tensioner can go bad and cause a weird sound. the other is new to me it is a fact i guess that on the 1zzfe motor the cam gear can wear out and cause a sound. now im not sure which one it is hopeing it is the just the tensioner but as long as isnt the bearings that makes me happy. what you guys think i should do. my guy told me to call Toyota direct and ask them about this if it was a problem and how it can be fixed there or anyother way
