    2003 Corolla Iregular Idle.

I have noticed that in the mornings when I start the car the RPM’s go higher than I expect. The RPM range between 2,000 to 2500 for the first 5-10 mins. The vehicle seems to normalize when the temperature reaches the optimal temperature. In other words when the temperature gages is in the middle o just below the middle. This only happens in the winter, it gets pretty cold in the winter in Canada. This used to happen in my 1990 Honda accord and there was a spiral plastic piece in the idle valve that would have to be adjusted.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I think it's normal when cold start.
but for 5-10 min, I think it's a bit long.

If I'm not mistaken, there's a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that came out on this problem. I would do a search over at 9thgencorolla, because I believe that's where I came across it. If you can't find it, you could ask your dealer if there is such a service bulletin for this problem. Also, take a look at matrixowners.com because they have TSBs on there home page. I know the Matrix is different but the engine, drivetrain and suspension are not. Eveythings the same with the exception of the body and interior.

I have a 8th gen and my car does the exact same. Its RPM is high for the first 5 min and almost precisely at the end of 5 min (and the ideal engine temp) it slows immediately down. I wouldn pay it any attention. I would wait those 5 minutes.
