The most unique corolla setup i've seen so far

I recently bumped into an old acquaintance who modded his 8th gen with a 1ZZ from a MR2 Spyder with the 5 speed sequential manual gearbox and the biggest modification was making a Mid Engine setup a front engine. Other than that, it runs nicely and gas mileage has only been decreased about 15%. I believe this to be the first corolla to have this done.

2 years ago, he graduated from UTI and this year he received a lot of money from his family for graduating and even more from his tax return. He got a job at VW and apparently they pay really well there. anyway, with the money he got, he began his project. He was originally going to put a 4agte but with so many drift enthusiasts buying the engines, he decided to invest in a newer engine which turned into the 1zz from a MR2. I never knew this but apparently most of the parts from the 1zz mr2 will not be interchangeable with the regular 1zz in a corolla. all parts are slightly modified.

Its taken him 6 months to finish his project but all is finished. this guy lives in Orange County so if you see an 8th gen with multi color panels, orange works wheels and a jack in the box head painted in red and black with devil horns on his radio antenna, its going to be him.

I guess now that he's finished with his project, he want to find a 2000GT and restore it... so if you know anyone thats selling one of those.. although its super rare, let me know. haha

I just bumped into the guy while I was visiting his area. i live like 70 miles away from him so I dont think i'll see him much again. hell, i'm still trying to get pics of this girl mechanic who I met over a year ago but she is nowhere to be seen. i really need to start carrying around a camera more often.

but those mr2s are quite swift... i wasn't street racing, but it has a lot of zip.

He should've used a Thompson Coupling instead of the stock driveshaft. The MR2 Sypder's are all right. My friend has one and I've driven it. It's not very quick, but it's peppy just like the Corolla. It's a bit faster than the Corolla though.

the 1zzfe's that are found in the MRS and the Celica, are from Japan. They have different tuning which allows them to put out 138-140 hp @ 6400-6500 rpm and 125-126 lb-ft torque @ 4200-4400 rpm. Here's a little info on the engines: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_ZZ_engine Also, the MRS had electric steering instead of the hydraulic power steering pump thats located on the engine.
