    Dual VVT-i

    WHAT??...read this...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VVT-i

    towards the bottom...what does that mean? is the engine twice as powerful? twice as fuel efficient? two times better?

    it just simply means that the change in timing of the intake and exhaust cams will be seperate, rather than both cams changing together

    Dual vvt-i is not really new. Toyota used it on the newest BEAM 3S engine in Japan already. And now in the new Avalon too. :)

    the dual part means that it's going to be on two heads instead of just the one. they'll both most likely kick in at the exact same time, just need two units to run it on a v6...

    edit - vvt-i may be in the is300...but it's not the dual vvt-i since the is300's run off a 2jz-ge non turbo straight 6 motor...

    Wrong. If that were the case, you would see all the V6's with VVT-i called Dual VVT-i, but they're not. Unless of course the V6's that are out now only have VVT-i on 1 intake cam on 1 head based on your terminology. Dual VVT-i means that it has VVT-i on both intake and exhaust cams, 'nuff said. How Toyota manages to control it on a V6 setup I don't know.

    IS300 = 2JZ-GE = VVT-i

    2 solenoids = dual solenoids (one solenoid per cylinder head)
    2 exhaust headers with non-intersecting pipes = dual exhaust

    just a theory :D
