    10th Gen Corolla Coming soon

While the SEMA show in Las Vegas used to be a venue exclusively for aftermarket firms to show their wares to other industry types, it has quickly evolved in recent years as yet another place for automakers to take the wraps off exclusive models and concepts. This year's show in November is turning out to be yet another automaker-heavy affair, with Toyota set to unveil the 2009 Corolla and Matrix to the throngs of enthusiasts in attendance.

Both models are getting long in the tooth, and although the Corolla remains one of the best selling compact cars in the U.S., it may prove to be less compelling fare than what the automaker wants to reveal at a major show like Detroit.

Toyota's press release can be viewed in full after the jump.

    PRESS RELEASE

Toyota To Stage U.S. Premiere Of 2009 Corolla And Matrix At 2007 Sema Show
    09/25/2007 Torrance, CA

September 25, 2007 - Torrance, CA - Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. (TMS), Inc. will stage the U.S. premiere of the all-new 2009 Corolla and Matrix at a press conference at the 2007 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show, held October 30 - November 3, 2007 in Las Vegas.

Originally launched in 1966, Corolla first arrived in America in 1968 to instant success. For nearly four decades, Corolla has been synonymous with Toyota quality, style and value, earning a distinction as one of the most trusted cars in America. Over that span over 30 million Corollas have been sold worldwide, making it one of the best-selling cars of all time.

Toyota's press conference will be held on Wednesday, October 31 at 10:10 AM in Pavilions nine,10 and 11 of the Las Vegas Hilton. It will be simulcast live to the Toyota display area on the second floor of South Hall. A video clip of the press conference will be available for viewing following the event on the Toyota.com website.

For some reason, I'm not looking forward to it. After what they did to the 9th gen, I'm horrified.

    AE92, AE101/2, ZZE110, ZZE130 (or whatever 9th gen is!).

Basically, after the AE86, they've pretty much sucked. And that's hard for me to say. I love my 8th gen, but they're nothing like the old RWD ones.

oh kool i didnt know europe had it already. oh well we dont have it yet and a lot of times, they change things just for US stupid americans so i'm still interested to see what it will look like.

I think the new matrix will be based off the blade platform just like the current one was based off the Will VS.

    oops... I was close! :hs:

And as for the look of the car, it looks like a Yaris Sedan and Camry bumped uglies. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Yaris S (seriously considering it as my next vehicle in a few years), but that new Corolla is FUGLY.

errr I though you knew, that rolla is already out in europe and it does look like a small camry, hence the need for new model Toyota Auris which is basically a corolla (or atleast size wise)

When they are finally modified to meet US standards, they always look 2 times worse. I think the rear bumper is interesting. As for the front and the car in general, I agree it is fugly. Toyota used to be a great company. Now it's crap. I will never buy Toyota again. Lexus is a different story.

All new models are either underpowered, overweight, oversized, or all of the above. I wouldn't drive around in a giant boat of a car like an Avalon or Camry. The Corolla is enormous now too. The Yaris is compact, but it's seriously underpowered. I'd rather consider the Honda Fit. With them discontinuing the sports cars, I'm afraid they will have very little support from enthusiasts anymore. The Celica and MR2 are gone.

How come they make the interior so stylish and better when it seems that they moved 3 step back on the exterior.

I think Fit is heavier and run slower than Yaris :D :D :D

I agree with you, all Toyota is either heavy or underpower or both. That's really sad. Every automakers now have 2.0L or 2.3L for their sub-compact car, but our lovely Toyota still using the 1.8L for corolla. :(

I used to think I would always be a Toyota fan. Now, I'm looking to defect to another car company. I'm sure some of you know that my next car will be a Subaru. Until Toyota behaves and shapes up, I'm not coming back. :D

I totaly agree with the underpowered statement, every car company has cars with some ooomph... except for toyota which in the lineup of fairly spoty cars have Scion TC, Corolla XRS and Celica GTS, the rest of the cars are big comfy and more luxury than sport. Lexus is a different story but they are also expensive and luxury sport if anything. I'm not saying that the cars are bad, they are great, but a 1.8L 130HP car like the corolla or 140HP Celica GT is really not doing it when comparing to Civic Type R, Mazda 6, Nissan Sentra SER, Chevy Cobalt ect ect... even stupid Suzuki Aerio has a 150HP engine and Matrix doesn't :p i know its "enviroment friendly" but sometimes you have to say... the hell with the enviroment!
