So I'm reminiscing and I remember a conversation I had with someone from Florida who moved to Los Angeles for his doctorate degree at UCLA. He drove a 2002 Corolla S and it was leased.

I was telling him about my brother's corolla (which I drive now) and I was telling him about my mods. obx coils, weapon r SRI, flowmaster muffler. and my friend was expressing his interest in cars as well.

enough chitchat.. i remember asking him, "why the corolla?"

his name is Alan. Alan says, "well the MPG, AND the fact that it passes emmisions in all 50 states. No other car company passes in California. If I had driven a civic or a sentra, I'd have to get some work done on the car before I can get it registered and pass emmisions."

WOW. really... ? that's kinda cool... Is that how strict emmision laws are in CA?

You work with it. You add modifications but ensure that it passes emissions at the same time.
