So I got a speeding ticket in GA for doing 30mph over the limit

So yesterday I was coming home from a birthday party at about 2:30am driving along 75/85 in downtown ATL. There were very few cars on the road, so I'm doing about 90 when I see a cop up ahead. He pulls me over and writes me a ticket for 87 in a 55, which in GA can be considered reckless driving. Such BS. Anyway, the ticket doesn't allow me to pay a fine, but instead, I have to go to Traffic Court on June 9th.

What can potentially happen there? I'm not worried about the fine, but I just don't want to lose my liscence or something. How many points could I get from this? I've never gotten a ticket like this before and the cop didn't seem like he wanted to explain too many details at the time. Any help would be much appreciated.

I saw about 3 other cars that got stopped by the cops as I drove the rest of the way home. They were really out in force around where 75/85 split, so if you're from the area, be careful at night.

uhhh heh - be lucky you got a ticket... from what i understand over 25 is officer's discretion to arrest you there on the spot. was it GSP or local?

yea most cops would arrest you since 25 over is considered a felony or some crap like that.... I try my best not to speed at all, don't feel like going to court again for some bs stuff....

I don't know if this is of any help, but NEVER do a trial by written declaration. You'll never know what or when or whether or not the other officer actually wrote another report, and either way you'll still get screwed as guilty...your written declaration is read by some jackass wearing huge eyeglasses and has only been laid in his dreams by a fat ass heffer. The trial by written declaration doesn't work.

Instead, take your chance and go to a real trial. If you don't feel like going to a trial and just pay up, that's fine too - just make sure you're going to do traffic school.

Local cop. He was actually a nice guy. Other than the fact that he actually gave me a ticket, he was the nicest cop I've been stopped by.

So all cops that give you a ticket should be an asshole?? Its their job.

And 25 over is not a felony....and in most states, that would not constitute an arrest.
In MD, over 100 is still borderline for arrest, and even then, an arrest is unlikely. In VA, 25 over is reckless driving.

    Just go to court.

*sigh* if you're nice to an officer when he pulls you over, he's most likely going to be just as nice/polite. they do their job...don't speed, and you won't have to worry about dealing with them.

Some people just dont have respect for authority. And theyll have to take the consequences for having that attitude.

it also looks better on you in court. my last ticket, i was VERY polite to the officer(despite having guts of fire, and speeding for fear that i wouldn't make it home in time). i told him that i was about to have an accident, and couldn't afford to wait - he said he'd escort me home, and then wrote up the ticket once i was finished my business. his testimony in court also allowed all points to be dropped(i had about 4...), and my fine was reduced SEVERELY...because he backed up my story.

    1-word-post fail
lol, too bad there's only 0.000000001% of the people asking questions on here... we don't have any q's.
I took Laura's advice all those years ago and never got a smudge on my record! No accidents, either. (and minimum liability coverage is the real reason lol)
