    fed the hell up

so i'm sick of the corolla being a horrible option as far as speed. i'm not in the mood to do a tranny swap since i'll be doing one on the 7, and the motor's base speed leaves a lot to be desired. i'm about ready to throw in the towel and move on.

i'm seriously considering a 98/99 Scooby 2.5 RS. they're decent looking cars, have a rather quick baseline, and seem to have badass aftermarket support. sure, the hood looks kindof silly, but that's a minor thing to me.

so - what's the general consensus on these cars?

RS is cool man. Subarus are built really tough now. I like the clean look of the RS hood, the WRX hood scoop, (although I LOVE them) is a little ugly. :) With a little $$ it could take it a long way. Turboing that engine would be great for you too, if you decide to do that down the line. With the 2.5, it'll yield some nice torque. Also with your flat 4 boxer engine, doing exaust mods really opens up their throats. Nice clean, DEEP sound. Not rice-whiny. You would definetly be happy with it.

it would be an older subaru...not something new. can't afford that - trying to have low-to-no payments on it.

i was told to avoid the 98s, as their DOHC is a problematic engine. apparently in 99 they switched to an SOHC and have had a much better result from it.

i DO love the boxers with aftermarket exhaust...mm mm tasty.

:) I know about the exaust, it makes me drool too.
Ooo, I did not know about the 98 problems. just to be safe look for a 99 or a 2000 even. I hear ya on the low/no payments. I miss not having one. lol

heh...yeah...i'm glad i killed my payments quickly.

apparently the headgaskets were problematic...and when the gaskets go, the heads warp easily. i won't necessarily avoid the 98s, but i'll definitely be asking when they replaced the gasket, and if it was done before it blew.

actually the 2.5's probably isn't your best decision if you want to go with a much faster car. Yes, they have bolt ons & whatnot..... but, i've learned through a friend some things about them. Friend of mine had a 2000 (another coworker has the a 99 or something, a 2 door), and he had a lot of plans. After looking into stuff, he was finally realizing that if he wanted to make the car about as fast as a stock WRX he would have to spend a lot more money than to just buy a WRX. Something about the drivetrain being much weaker than te WRX's and that it really isn't worth it. His 2.5RS wasn't much quicker than my ae92 was with a 4afe. He now has a WRX. My coworker with the 2 door is looking to sell his.

i didn't say MUCH FASTER - my plans are to drive the car. that's it. maybe an exhaust, maybe a drop and tint. nothing more.

i want something that's got a better baseline than the corolla. i don't plan on doing a ton of work to it - i have the RX7 for that. i just hate that i can barely get up to speed in the damned thing.

What year corolla you got? I forget. If its 93-97 id say do the AE101 GZE engine swap, that will cost 5000 with labor and good clutch/flywheel. But if its anything newer, well im not sure what swaps are out there. If you cant swap, and cant afford a brand new XRS, get the 2.5 RS. I myself looked at those before i got 05 XRS.

01 S. it's broken...it was abused before i got it, and every time i turn around something else is breaking on it. at that age, it SHOULDN'T be breaking. it's also an AUTOMATIC. i'm not interested in a motor swap on this car, since it's my daily driver. that's just NOT feasable. i'd considered it at one point but when my motor and tranny were stolen, i lost all heart in it. the corolla is nothing more than a tool to me right now. i have no desire to do ANYTHING else.

...that said, my sways, intake, and seats are probably going to be going up for sale soon. depends on some conversations i'll be having with people in the next couple of days.

keep something else in mind - i REFUSE to get a new car. i do not want to deal with monthly payments whatsoever. a 98/99 RS is ideal for me.

yeah...a long ass time ago. this happened the first year i had the car...lawsuit was settled, i got money for it, bought the cavalier, cavalier got stolen, gave up after that.

i will reiterate - i currently DO NOT WANT TO DO A MOTOR SWAP ON THIS CAR. it will be purchased STRICTLY to get me from a to b reliably...moreso than the corolla will. if i decide to do something like that LATER down the line, it won't be a JDM engine unless that will cost me the same as something i can get on the us market.

you should try to find a celica alltrac.... AWD, Toyota, 3sgte.... and will still be cheaper than a 2.5rs... and much faster :)
