    Broke my passenger mirror! :(

I was in a rush to work this morning and I squeezed past my front gate trying to make a green light. Well, I mistimed it probably due to my grogginess of having to wake up early and I smacked the mirror against the gate and it snapped. That woke me up. So now I have my power mirror hanging from the wires off the side. I'm so pissed off at myself. I want to take the mirror off but in order to get it completely off I need to open up the door to disconnect the wire harnessing for the power mirror. If I were to glue it, would it stay? I'm thinking of using epoxy to perform the fix. That stuff is insanely strong. I'll have to tape or clamp the mirror housing together until it dries though. I got a nasty scuff on the housing but I can remove it with scratch remover, polish, and wax. It would be easier if I could get the mirror off of the car. Please help if you have any experience.

these mirrors fix really well if you didn't break th extremal housing you just need to be very patient and take them apart completely the came a prat very well, i converted my car from "push-on-glass" mirror to power and took them a part a reassembled them so i'm sure you'll be able to fix it with a hitch.

i did the same thing with my mom's van once. the epoxy stuff works pretty good but after i put it back together, because my mirror was powered, it didn't go back exactly the way i wanted. also I needed to sand off the excess glue after it dried and by the time i finished sanding off, i was too lazy to paint it again so i just left it. eventually i found a replacement at the junkyard so i just replaced it and my power windows work properly again.

how bad did the mirror break?

The housing separated from the backing with all the internal components still inside it. I wasn't going very fast. I say less than 5 mph so it was a clean break. I can see the break points from inside the mirror casing. I'm thinking I'll epoxy the inside sections where it broke in like 4 places and then clamp the thing together until it cures.

Well I epoxied it and clamped the thing together with duct tape. I'm just waiting for it to cure now. The gate left some nasty scratches down the side of my car but Meguiar's took it right out. I only have a slight smudge on the mirror housing.

i'd use this as an excuse to replace the mirros with power M3's or something similar. but generally you are lucky that you didn't scratch your side, i got too close to a delivery truck in my old rolla and the mirror folded on impact but somehow i manahed to put scratches on the right side of the doors.

I don't like the M3 mirrors IMO. Mine are fixed so I'm happy. Maybe later I'll get a set of different black mirrors to match my white and black theme. Well actually, I don't like the first gen mirrors. The second ones are cleaner looking.

That sounds nice but I'm trying to stay away from extra lights that could attract cops. I just want a plain black version 2 M3 mirror with no lights.

I'd change for the ones with LED lights, dual LED so i'd hook up white to the low beams so they would come on at night and then i'd hook up amber to turn signals, but the OEM in 2005 are sooooo big that I love the field of view which they provide.

I have some power folding mirrors for my car sitting in my bedroom. Took a while to figure out the wires without a diagram, now I just need to get them painted.
