yeah dude, putting back the bumper was difficult. i don't think i'll ever be able to line up the bumper to where it was originally placed.

ELP CAI for 2001 Corolla CE

So, if you've been keeping up with the latest breaking news in corollaville, I snagged the last ELP CAI from eBay. here's what I did with it. you might laugh A LOT at my work.... hehe, yah yah yah... get it out of your system.. laugh all you want... but at least I have a cold air intake!

this is an ELP CAI for 98-2000 corollas

notice that the MAFS is just a bung. there's no way that will work on a 2001 corolla!

my weaponR SRI. notice here that the MAFS hole is way bigger than the 98 corolla

I measured the size of the MAFS port of my SRI

then i sketched the dimensions of the SRI's MAFS on my ELPCAI.

we're now ready for cutting. i'm using a dremmel that i bought from wal-mart. this this is badass!

after the piece has been cut out, i grind around the edges with my dremmel to smoothen things out. this shizz is totally sharp. be careful, wear longsleeves, pants, and eye protection.

...just sizing things up and doing some eyeball comparisons.

the Weapon R SRI is off and ready for cutting!

place the SRI MAFS port on top of the ELPCAI hole...

AND WELD!!! WELDING IS DANGEROUS. wear long sleeves, pants, eye protection, and wear the facemask at all times during welding to prevent eye damage from the arc.

I never said I was good at welding.

hehe... pics of the finished weld job. it's not neat.. but it holds!!!

    remove the bumper.

resonator box is ready for removal.

slide in the ELPCAI through the hole where the resonator box was. if you removed the battery, moved the fuse boxes off to the side, you'll see a hole. don't ask me where it is... just trust me and beleive me when I say there was a hole for the resonator box.

    IT FITS!!!!

install the MAFS and tube thingy. (it's blue in this picture) screw back the fuse boxes, and put back the battery. it's a real tight fit. probably because my car is a 2001, and the ELPCAI was made for 98-2000 corollas.

    my monster cone filter.... but...

... I had to resort to this shorty becasue the bumper wouldn't fully line up. i might need a body kit to install the bigger cone filter.

i never had foglights to begin with, and instead of foglights, there were fog light covers. i just unhooked the covers so that the air can rush straight through to the filter.

    muhahahahhah!!! (evil laugh)

it's a messy job, but i'm not showcasing my car... at least i have a CAI.

no signifcant gains... but i know the engine won't be sucking in warm air from now on.

this was completed before you posted your ELPCAI for sale. I actually bought the ELPCAI from ebay i think May 4th. the reason this was just done recently is because elproto had a death in the family and he was responsible for the estates and he forgot about his auctions. it took him a while to ship mine and another customer's CAI. if i didn't buy the elpcai in early may, i would've been calling/emailing you 6 days ago.

    but jtweezy,
don't call my work and efforts trouble. i know i'm being a shumck about your language syntax, but i had a lot of fun doing this. calling my work trouble is... yes, a difference of opinion, but i just wanted you and everyone else to open their eyes a little bit and respect other people's work in the future. I'm not assuming you disrespect my work, but when you say trouble, i see a bunch of flashing red lights around it that point out it's opinionated connotation. as far as myself for being a shmuck, i'm currently in college getting my master's degree. and when you write 10 page papers every 2 weeks, you have no opinion! i just finished my semester... i still might be in school mode, and i'm sorry if it sounds like i'm chewing you out. no worries man.

My ELP CAI was too long as well. I shortened it 2 inches with my trusty hacksaw and problem solved. You should consider it. hehe

Good work man! I think it's cool, you take the first step to do it all by yourself. :D
Can you sand it down and smooth the welds?

No sig gains compared to the SRI or the stock intake? And what kind is that blue air filter? I need to mod my CAI and get a new filter too. I think this thread would help a lot with the modding part....

I was at Autozone recently and I saw a part they were selling that could save me a lot of work. Its like a coupler with a MAF sensor mount on it. If the diameter is the same as my ELP, all I need to do is cut out a portion of the CAI and weld this part in. I could not find a picture on their website but I'll try. Comments????

I think that blue intake he had was weapon r intake and I don't think the cai gives a lot of gain but its suck in better air instead of engine heat.

The CAI i bought looks like this,

I'm guessing it had the provision for a 01+ model MAFS but the previous owner bore a hole right next to it for an older model car. Will boring out a hole big enough to let the MAFS through and pasting the MAFS mount like this one has on it work for me (and ofcourse sealing the old hole)?

The part that I mentioned in my other post here is actually 3" in dia so I can't use it.

Stage 1 of my CAI modding. I wish I had pix but heres what I did. I hacked off with my trusty hacksaw the line that you see in the pic below.

Stage 2 would be to bore out a hole large enough to fit my MAFS just right. There was already one on it, but it was sealed by the previous owner. All I gotta do is bring it back and seal up the other hole right next to it. Hopefully, all this will be done soon and I will have a CAI this summer.
