You're absolutely right. Boycotting or pumping less doesn't affect the number of gallons you pump a year. Its still going to be the same. Driving style and technique is the only thing that can be changed. You get less tickets too for driving speed limit. I just got one this past month. ugh...

On my 2001 Prizm, as soon as I had an empty tank (the same tank of gas that had the fuel injector cleaner in it), I drove 92 miles, 97% highway after refilling with the same shell v-power gaso jzrwcr has the receipt for. Believe this or not (I still doubt this) but when I filled up again just to measure the mileage, I could just fill in 1.867 gallons and the tank was full, effectively accounting for an unbelievable 45+ mpg. Anyone wants to verify this or think it was a maaaaaaaaaaaaajor fluke how it happened? My higway speeds were 70mph on State Roads and 80-85 on Interstates.

yeah, well... putting that fuel injector cleaner might have done the trick. btw, i'm using the low-end gas from shell. jeeez!!! 3.45/gal!!!! i'd love to put the 89 octane, but if i can do over 400 miles (driving safely) with 87 octane why bother paying the extra 10 cents?

ohh yeah, i do have some mods that might have aided with this gas milage

15kg front & 13kg rear spring rates by ksport: there's no pitching during accelleration, i think this focuses more power to the front wheels instead of absorbed energy in the rear

my car reads 139k miles but theres a different engine in it that came with 60k miles b/c my brother blew the original motor.

i dunno... i feel as though when i drive this safe and conservatively, i feel as though i have a brand new car with the exception that my suspension is stiff as hell!

I used the 93 oct v-power for about the same price. I have no mods yet, everything stock except for the new Magnaflow cat. My engine has a good 138K miles on it, and except for drinking oil like a fish, it does a good job.

I do about 50 city% and 50% highway driving and i haven't been speeding. well, i raced my friend on the 101 to see who can get to in and out the fastest, and I won, but anyway, I've been driving real conservatively

Nice! 35.471 mpg. How fast have you been driving on the freeways? I always get 30 mpg for the same 50/50 city/highway but I drive 80 mph on the highways. I might just slow it down a bit if I can get a few more miles per gallon.

on freeways i do 65-70 right between the marks. i keep the rpms below 3k. but i drive a stick... maybe that makes a difference

does anyone know about that "Don't pump gas on the 15th?" I think that's crap.

I heard some economist saying that if everyone made the effort to pump 1 gallon less, that would effect the gasoline companies. I think that's crap too... b/c then you'll be at the pump more frequently

I say, drive more conservatively, give yourself more than enough time to drive to where you're going, only drive if you have to drive, and carpool more often. If everyone did that, I think it would help.

I personally feel the difference in my bank account now that I'm driving safer, and giving myself more than enough time to get to where I need to go.

Yes, anything over 87 is a waste unless its for the periodical cleaning. You don't get any better gas mileage.

I thought that when the fuel light is on you've got 2-3 gallons left.

Is 10w30 the stock viscosity grade? I'm using Castrol 15w30 synthetic blend. The less viscosity of the oil, the more gas mileage you can achieve. They also sell 0w30 for even higher gas mileage for cars that can handle it.

which reply are you referring to? mine? i filled up 11.xxx gallons. isn't the tank 13 gallons?

I don't think so.

I've heard there's always around 1 gallon in the fuel tank that the fuel pump can't reach.

10W40 CASTROL SYNTEC FOR ME.

you actually can get a few more miles outta the 93 . but its not good for economy in the long run.

on 87 i get about 275 to tank and thats on the highway , not city. i know being bored .20 and head shaved .20 has a lot to do with it , oh yeah , also probably the 1.8 injectors , cai , header w/ full exhaust dont help much either.

Isn't 10w40 a little thick? That could be your reason. If your car has oil burning problems then I understand but under normal circumstances, its too thick. 10w30 seems like the norm.

Corolla tank is 15 gallons. I filled once with 14.5 gallons

my owners manual tells me that it's 13.2 gallons.

dunno how you managed that unless you kept pumping after the pump clicked.

Toyota recommends 5w30 in the winter, 10w30 in the summer. <br />
0w30 is for extremely cold climates.<br />

I currently use 10w30 Mobil 1 high mileage and it's supposed to help with old engine seals and reduce oil burnoff.

oops correction. I use 5w30. Somehow a 1 slipped in there.

when I went to seattle about 3 years ago with my corolla, i purposely made it run out of gas. I think mine was about 13 gallons. because all i remember is my gas light came on and i made another 70 miles or so with the light on. my car stopped not too far past sacramento and i had a gallon of gas in my trunk. I put that in the car.. unfortunetly, my car didnt start with just 1 gallon. I had to call AAA and get them to bring me a little bit more gas. They actually just towed my car to a nearby gas station which was mad expensive. at the gas station, i think i filled up about 12.5 gallons.

BTW, i had a 2001 model. and since this thread is about gas mileage, I was getting an average of 37 miles a gallon at the time.

So its about a 14 gallon tank.

There is a extra 2 gallons in your tank that Toyota is not telling you.


Its like my Sentra, owner's manual says 10 gallon tank and its actually a 12 gallon tank.
