Challenge for everyone (problem I cant figure out)

Ok, I have a bit of a problem here that I can't figure out.
The following is all relative to my work (in the lab) and research.
I have a TON of images from some data that has been collected (They are ALL bitmap, and and they are highly pixelated for a reason, just believe me). Each pixel if VERY important, so they must stay as bitmaps (and not a lossy file type like jpeg.

Now if all of the images were the same size, this wouldnt be a problem. However. Each image is slightly larger or smaller than the next. All of of the bmp's have to be joined together, so they all have to be the SAME SCALE.
That is the problem. I cant figure out a way to get them all the same scale (so each pixel matches up to another (same size) in another picture.

Here's 2 samples that will give you an idea of what I am talking about. The first is a sample, the second is with the other information stripped, and the same with the last 2.

photoshop I guess. I don't know of any automated way to remove the white space and align the pixels. the align can be done by some photo stitching software, but the crop.. no clue, by hand I'd guess.

Just out of curiosity, why are they different sizes to begin with?

Also, what do you do in the lab?

I think I may have found a way to do it. My uncle who is the photo/graphics guy for the university/hospital downtown here said he could get someone to do it in photoshop in about 5 minutes, cropping and all
So if that works. GREAT. That'll save me at least 40 hours of work.

As for them being different sizes, let me explain what I do (and answer the second question). I'll try and keep it short and simple
The research that I am doing right now is on transgenic Alsheimer mice (and human in a couple weeks, when a good control group is obtained).
What the images are from are not actually "images". What it is is a sample of mouse brain tissue, which is then IR raster scanned in small groups (the aperature of the microscope is only so large, thus why they are broken into small pieces from a large sample, and some of them are along borders/high focus areas/etc, being why they are different sizes).
So basically you do an IR scan on each "pixel" - basically a few micrometers across, which then gives you a ton of information from the absorption of that small area. Then looking at certain peaks, including ratios of certain areas, and signature pieces of information for molecules and strucutres in question, you can "image" that area of the map to show what you are looking for in each case.
Ok, that wasn't short or simple, but I'm sure someone will understand it.

sounds good. similar to stuff the I've worked with, minus the mice brains :) . Good luck with the research... Oh, where are you doing this research?
