Toyota buying General Motors? Honda buying Ford?

That would shake up things on the stock-car trail.

    And Mercedes did buy Chrysler.

As strong as the Japanese car makers are financially - so flush with cash - and as down in the dumps as American car makers are, no wonder there is such speculation as Toyota-GM and Honda-Ford.

Some top NASCAR team owners, who rely on Detroit for key support, are worried about the Japanese, for a number of reasons.

Is there the possibility that an American car maker might drop out of the Busch series if Toyota does come in?

"I'd say everything is on the table," Ford's Jack Roush said. "I haven't heard anything to that effect, but if you look at where they (Toyota) have been, they've run off competitors in the other series, and they'll try to do the same thing here."

That was in reference to Chevrolet pulling out of the Indy Racing League after Toyota and Honda blew the GM division out of the water on that tour.

"The thing about the Japanese is that to them, business is war, and the same thing with racing," Roush said. "And the limitations, out of tradition and consideration, that Americans have put on their racing and business are things the Japanese typically don't do. And that puts them at an advantage, because they can do things that traditionally would not have been done.

"There is great jeopardy to our economy and our racing from the influence of money that comes in from sources that weren't developed in the American economy."

The key issue in the NASCAR Cup garage at the moment is Toyota's apparently imminent step up to the Busch series next season, with an expected Nextel Cup debut in 2007. Toyota's NASCAR model is expected to be the Avalon, though some are looking at the Solara, too.

Translation: we can't make cars as good as they can.

If domestics can't make a race car to keep up with the Toyotas, then that's their problem, and they shouldn't be blaming it on cultural differences. They need to step up to the plate or leave.

Failure at NASCAR would mean that domestics are unable to win on their own turf, and consumers will respond to that. They very well could eventually be bought out, as NASCAR is really their only claim to fame right now.

Toyota will influence the start :what:III, including the use of nukes on the Korean Peninsula. No more competition from Korean cars.

Next they will send hackers to Honda and screw with their ECUs...so when you go into VTEC, your engine literally blows up. Honda goes bankrupt amid lawsuits and loss of consumer confidence. Mitsu, Mazda, and any other remaining Asian manufacturers quietly back down due to threats from Toyota of a similar fate.

Completely owning the Asian market, Toyota moves on to the U.S., where they begin selling V10 hybrids with 400 HP and the gas mileage of a V6 Camry for only $30,000 (because they can now afford it). Needless to say, they make tons of money generated by all the hype. All the domestic manufacturers lose tons of money, and Toyota makes them an offer they can't refuse. They are bought out.

For Europe, Toyota starts paying off the FIA and they win all the following Formula 1 Championships. Billed as "the average man's Ferrari" they have vast success and eventually run their competitors out of business.

As Toyota become the world's only mode of transportation (they will buy Boeing and make them a seperate division of Toyota) the U.N. unanimously elect the president of Toyota as the Sumpreme Rule of the Entire World.

Toyota has extremely good chances of succeeding in ANY racing event no doubt about that just like any other make wether is domestic or imported, I mean this is their 2nd year in the F1 and they're making hell of a process that surely NOBODY thought possible for a noobie team like Toyota. I think IF Toyota does go into Nascar then the world will be able to see who prevails in the infinite battle of DOMESTIC vs. IMPORTS....... frankly I never get tired of it and all I can say is... maybe the best win.

Japanese car companies would have no benefit in buying a US car company because the Japanese can do everything US carpanies do and more. They're already more efficient and they don't need our companies for American factories, because they already have those. Their build quality is better than that of American companies and they don't need to worry about gaining a hold in the US market anymore, because, well they dominate our car market.

The DaimlerChrysler deal happened because Mercedes wanted to gain a foothold in a cheaper price segment. Toyota is already an expert at building cars at various price segments, unlike American car companies, so they don't any help there either.

People keep speculating on how Toyota and Honda have enough cash to buy GM, but I don't think they ever would. It doesn't make any business sense and the politics of a deal like that alone would be gruesome.

If Toyota joined Nascar I might just watch, actually. As of now I refuse.
