    wheel bearings

    2002 chevy prizm
Hey I blew out my front wheel bearing(s). Is there a certain kind I should get? Is the prizm and corolla going to be the same? How much do you think I'm gonna pay if I order it online? The mechanic said he can get me one for $165 each.

$165 just for the bearing? That's a rip off! Check www.rockauto.com. A bearing there is about $26.

my suggestion is get lighter rims... any rims that is either same weight or lighter then stock... cuz i already replace my left front wheel bearing and its now f-ck up again... and also make sure ur rims are balance and the hub centric ring hav excellent fitment...

oh yea i got just the bearing replaced on the left. I thought it was the left because when i turn right the wobbling noise is loud and when i turn left it gets quiet. The noise is still there. maybe I should have replaced the whole assembly instead of just the bearing itself?

Hey I thought that my wheel bearing was messed up and then I replaced it. Then I hit the gas while my car was on the lift and i saw that my wheel was wobbling a little as if it were bent but the calipers would move too because the rotors were moving with the rim. Does anyone know what I would have to get replaced? When I bought the bearings I saw that they also had the whole assembly with the brake hub and all. But my friend said it could be the control arms? IDK this is probably gonna cost a lot. I'm better off just getting rid of this car.

these bearings have to be pressed in and its probably better to have a shop do this . i know i had sears do my both front and it was only 161.00 for both sides complete.

as for curlupanddie420 if the noise goes away in the direction your turning , its the opposite side , the more weght or4 load on a wore out wheel bearing , the quieter and smoother it is . my probes front left was goin out . when i turned right it shut up , turned left and it raised hell and vibrated.

also wheel weight is not gonna matter , what matters is wheel width and wheel camber. if youre riding off camber or you have wider than spec rims . your forcing the geometry of the offset on the hub to change , this is what wears out parts. the only way wheel weight would matter is if you get airborne frequently , or hang your corolla in 3-wheel motion (god i hope not).
