i wouldn't run even 6psi with stock internals. i know i've never had a turbo before, but if that's what 12 psi looks like.... geeeeesh!!!

It should handle 9 safely, and even up to 12, but I had some other issue that caused that.

ok, just trying to figgure out if running 3-5 lbs of boost on stock internals (non-intercooled) would be alright. only looking for 150-160hp outta this engine without lowering the compression ratio.

    I wouldn't run more than 3 or 4 non-intercooled.

do what that one guy did on trd forums. take your old broken parts, weld it together and make a trophy type of thing.

The head's off... and here's what it looks like underneath...

Steve and I got the head off the car last night. Here's what we found.

The piston head sitting sideways in the first cylinder. The other pistons look fine and the head gasket is undamaged. There's an exceptionally heavy amount of carbon deposits and oil on the piston head compared to the rest. I guess all the blow by oil ended up here.

The piston was completely covered in crud.

Yup, the rods are definitely a weak part here. The rest of it is probably sitting in the oil pan. Looks like the crank shaft took a beating as well.

Both intake valves are destroyed from hitting the piston. One of them is even cracked.

You can see how they're bent in this close up.

A better shot of the piston once I cleaned most of the crud off.

The underside is missing quite a bit. Glad these are getting replaced with forged pistons.

Oh, and here's a show of the holes that got blown in the side of the block. I'm so glad I had a fire extinguisher on hand.

This shot's not as clear, but you can see both holes in it.

about 12psi, but I had some serious blow by issues that I didn't discover till after the fact. The catch can got clogged and sent all the oil out the crank case breather into the intake/intercooler/manifold. I soaked up a couple of paper towels will just the oil from the intake manifold alone.

If built right, between 15-20 psi

It should be able to run 20psi, possibly more if tuned properly. The new block's getting bored it out to 1.94L along with 8.8:1 pistons.

I was just browsing and I came across this. Partially complete turbo kit.
You will still need to fabricate a turbo manifold and a downpipe. Monkey Wrench Racing sells a 1ZZFE turbo manifold if I remember correctly.

with a built block 20psi should handle easily with racing gas and a proper tune.
