From what I hear and see, stock or stock-like bulbs in aftermarket projector lights lose output capability. For instance, the light output of projectors for the 98 with halogens is pitiful. And why do you want to avoid HIDs at all costs? For about 200 or less you can get HIDs. They have 3 times the light output than halogen bulbs and when used with projection headlights the output is more evenly distributed and more magnified. It's worth the investment. Trust me. I'm 100% satisfied and I don't even have projection headlights.

    Sunshine Industries HID

    Flowlighting HID
These are the ones I have.

    05 rolla S projector headlights....

Did some searching here but nothing that will answer my question.... for my car 05 corolla S I want to get some projection lights but all I see on ebay are the ones that use H3 for the low beam... now I have stock w silverstar bulbs in them, if I do go projection, and I plan on relplacing the bulb w silverstars will I loose light output? I was hoping to gain some light on the road going with projection ( I want to avoid HID at all cost). also if anyone has pics of their car with projections at night that would be awesome... but mostly will I loose light output???

we actually have HID's in our 03 Corolla with those projectors headlights.

the cut off is actually not bad. and I drive infront of my GF's corolla all the time and the HID's are really good. no glare at all
