2001 Corolla custom cold air intake

I am trying to make a custom cai for my car out of 3 inch pipe but when I try to turn the car on it starts and then dies. It seems like the sensors aren't liking something maybe the 3 inch pipe? Both the MAF sensor and vacuum sensor are installed. Any reason why this wouldnt work?

i had an ebay intake on previously and i installed the maf sensor so that the airflow was in the same direction relative to the sensor that it was on the ebay intake

is it possible to have the maf or vacuum sensors too close to the intake manifold.. also would a longer pipe help?

it has to be the same size as stock. Coz the MAF measures air flow. Even if same amount of air go into the pipe, but larger pipe = slower air flow, smaller pipe = faster air flow.

the tech guy where i bought the parts says the MAFS should reset and adjust and the engine turns over and then allow it to fire so it can recalibrate
