No one got hurt. The air bags didnt even go off. It was raining really bad and somehow rear end lost traction when my mom was entering the highway. She hit the guard rail. Front impact was not very big. Mostly the stuff got ripped out. I will keep you guys posted but the car will likely get fixed.

your air bags didnt pop out...you can sue toyota. Is that fixable?or a total loss,i know my car was kinda similar to your accident and in nevada 45% of damage it's considered totalled :(

I was talking to my mechanic today and he said that the demage is more extensive then we thought. It looks like the front right McPherson tower mounting is busted. Besides that 2 engine mounts are cracked and alternator and AC pump are broken. Looks like total to me. He said that if they dont find a car with the back fucked up then its a total.

I think I will sue toyota because he told me that they did pop because the sensor broke off. WTF. I smell a lawsuit. Awsome.

as you said - stuff got ripped out. most likely, thats the reason bags didnt deploy. if were to hit the object as if u punched someone then the bags would have gone off in your face. :D

It looks strange that the sir bags didnot deploy, but you have to take into account that it is not only one sensor that determines if an air bag needs to deploy, but a combination of sensors that measure amongst other things deceleration of the moving mass. You also have to take into account that you have a car built after 1998 when the standards for airbag inflations were increased where a minimun set of events needs to happen which makes airbag inflation happen only under severe impact.

You say it was raining, and most likely you skidded, which means that the damaged happen over a longer distance, and the decelaration was not as severe, or/and it happened over longer distance.

That the sensor is broken off does not mean anything, You can hit the senson with a hammer, and still not have the airbags deploy.

GL, but I really do not think you have a case against Toyota.

Ouch man that sucks, but your mom is lucky that the bag didnt deploy, those things might save your life but they can hurt you.

u cant buy brand new cars and import them into canada. :(
    last time i checked anyways.

u can only import old cars - 15yrs older or something like that. stupid canadian govt. :(
i could be wrong but i think the only time u can bring in a newer model from US is when u used to live there and u move to canada and bring your car with u.
