    wiring a sub

I have an 03 corolla. I want to put my audiobahn amp and box in the trunk. Are there any DIYs out there for the wiring. I would like to know how I can run a power cable from under the hood and into the trunk. I would also like to put a switch in the cockpit for the sub. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

ya u can buy a amp wiring kit from walmart... but u bascially wire the power cable from battery positive terminal and route thru the firewall (try to find a stock hole instead of drilling thru the firewall) then u route the power cable on either left or right side to the trunk and connect to the amp and then ground cable is connected from amp and ground to the trunk area... as for remote wire (usually blue colored wire) u can just connect to ur deck's power antenna wire... and for RCA cables u want to route as far away from the power cable to lower interference...

make sure you wire the power cable on one side of the car and the rca wire and remote wire on the other sides. the power wire is suppose to be 6 inches i think away from the others so it is easier to just put it on the opposite side of the car.

Would anyone recommed going with a bigger wire than 4 guage? I remember talking to someone once who was an installer and refused to use anything less than a certain guage and I can't remember now what that was... but does a more powerful amp require thicker guage wire?

Yes .. there are ratings for the gauges .. i believe 0/1 gauge wire are used in 2000-3000+ wattage 4gauge is used for 1000-1500? and 8guage is used for 600-1000? or something in those lines. and on how to wire the subs .. there are guides like http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp .. and audiobahn isnt the best subwoofer to get, it is the cheapest next to walmart brands but sound quality wise not the best.

man, ive worked with speakers for about 4 years now (i do tecnical theatre). you'll be fine with 4 uage man, if your really worried about it then get an inline fuse and you'll be ok. as far as installing the amp, im guessing the switch is gonna be run through your feed line running to the amp so you dont mess up your system. but be sure to check for a pre-amp first because you might need to get a different harness for that depending on the vehicle. but it really isnt that hard, just dont be afraid to try stuff. also, might be useful/a good idea to get a voltmeter to measure power to and from.
