Engine VVT-i and my 98 corolla...

Unless you blow your current engine, it's not worth to swap to a vvti 1zz for only 5-10hp.
Go for 2zz-GE vvtl-i if you're serious about swap, or just turbo it.

trade in your car for an 01-02 models with 5spd or just rebuild your internals and turbo.

i have a 98 corolla with 94000mi on it and i am going to get serious about this car... would it be worth the switch to the vvti or would it even hook up? i would need a transmission also because i have that stupid 3-spd auto from factory.. why in the world would toyota ever make a 3 spd tranny...

swapping auto to manual will cost alot,unless you could diy and like i said trade in your car for a 5spd.I dont know anything about that performance chip and i dont think its gonna give you 20hp.

I wanted to convert my 01 from auto to manual before. But then come to think of it, the convertion cost around $2000, and the car's resell value will drop $1000 (auto worth around $1000 more than manual). So in total I will lost $3000.
So why don't you just sell the car and get a manual one???

i cant do this because i dont have a lot of cashflow... otherwise i would be driving an SRT-4 and i wouldnt be worrying about this... ha that would be nice... ahhh... but yeah so i am kinda screwed.. and about the chip.. i doubt i will get 20 out of it either.. but it was cheap as hell so as long as i get something i wont be too upset...

sell the car, get a civic, drop in a nice engine. hondas are swapped on a daily

i know, but you were asking whether it was worth it to do that to the rolla. rollas arent meant to be hooked up. civics are in the same class and have huge aftermarket support. so it would be much cheaper to go with the honda option in the end than to make you rhead hurt with a minimal gain swap in a corolla (just a suggestion)

Or just go any dealer, ask him if they have any manual 98. And then them you're willing to direct trade your auto for the manual. Most of the dealers will do it unless your car is in a very bad condiction.

as soon you get enough or alot money,decide if you want to swap tranny,trade in your car for a 5spd or get a srt4 because we trying to giving all this advice and you keep saying you dont have any money to spend.so whats the point on getting serious on your car,if there's no money to throw out and from there tell us whats your plan and your budget.

I wasnt tryin to be an ass,but i just wanted to give you my opinion on what you should do and being a fulltime college student is real hard so props to you.
now you have a summer job,its time to save some money.let the modds begin...

its cool, i understand taht its hard to give someone advice about what to do when they have limited options AND then they shoot everything down cause of $$... so yeah.. but Mos Def time to start modding.... i think im just gonna keep the rolla, keep it semi-simple with exhaust, intake, wheels/tires, body kit, and paint hopefully so that i dont have to drive my car for 8 months with primer on it.. ha ..thanks you guys have been a great help. later!!
