    rice or not rice?

Maybe somebody can clarify something. What is a ricer? Is it something to be proud of?

I want to find out what it means to be a ricer.

    9. Ricer link send redefine 50 up, 13 down

Any of a number of persons, usually young males, who place numerous cosmetic enhancements to a vehicle in the belief that such enhancements will add performance to their vehicles. These "enhancements" include but are not limited to:

    1. Incorrect badging
    2. Insanely large exhaust tips (5" in diameter or greater)
    3. Spoilers & bodykits; especially those made of cardboard or plastic
    4. Offset tape stripes
    5. Single wiper conversion
    6. Oriental symbols; esp. on American cars
Cars do not neccesarily need to be imports to be considered "rice"- ex. "Cobra" badging and/or body kit on a V6 Mustang.I've seen myself the following examples:

    "RalliArt" badging on a Honda
"Evolution" badging and bodykit attempt on 1989 Mirage
    "Neuspeed" badging on 1997 Lumina
"Type-R" badge and 5" exhaust tip on 1980s Civic Wagovan
Double spoiler, 18" rims and Type-R badge on Geo Metro
    Type-R badge on Ford Probe

those rice rides you showed earlier aren't really that bad. there's some ricey elements, but.. lets see if i can find some old picture of what some real rice looks like...
one exampe (i gotta find the picture) was of something like a toyota previa.. huge type r banner on the rear windshield, twin canister mufflers with about a 4.5-5" tip on the end (only 1 was actually hooked up) rockin some spinner hubcaps, a GT style aluminum wing on the roof, amongst other things like GTR, TRD, etc. emblems all across...

just don't forget, there is a difference between rice and show. kinda rude to call a dude a ricer when he's got his car pimped all for all show no go. he's just not a racer..

The only thing that is wrong with that is that it dont matter how large of a tip you have on the muffler it is how it sounds. I have a 4.5 inch tip on my muffler and it sounds great and there are people who have heard it one of which posted before me

its always good to have a little of both , like the aristo , and sti's. civic and honda are so played out . nissan is becomming the same way w/ the drift craze . toyota is next boys , so lets keep em clean and fast , and let the hondas keep the bad rep. im not knockin on nissan though , ive seen some BAD ones. but i see toyota (scion) , and mazda maybe gm to be the next target in sport compact. mid size and FR nissan has locked right now , and as for AWD subaru and mitsu got a good comp. goin right now.

Ricer around the world. Here in my country, it's not weird to see Kia with "320i" emblem or Corolla with Ferrari emblem :D

one dude brought in his 4runner to have the axle replaced...

Had an SE-R emblem on the back, NOS sticker on the doors, non-functional hood pins (they were like...stickers)..wires hanging from his underbody...biohazard emblem to top it off...I liked the biohazard sticker...

    AN SE-R EMBLEM...for pete's sake...

No mods WHATSOEVER! makes me throw up everytime I see it...

ALso...watch the vw commercials...the eclipse is my favorite by far :D

anything that DOES NOT MAKE THE CAR PERFORM BETTER in the job you have given it is rice..

me putting on a fiberglass bodykit or front lip is rice. serves no purpose at autoX..
now.. if i was into actually winnings shows (shudder) a fiberglass bumper/lip would be not rice if tastefully done.

decide what job your car has, and mod accordingly..

daily driver only?? dont waste your time on bodykits

no no...I hate that commercial...I kept thinking...why would ANY car bow to an eclipse the whole time I watched it...much the same with their truck...like a frontier would ever piss itself around a mitsu..HA

It's the commercial for the new gti...VW...volkswagon? They trebuchet (type of catapault) an eclipse...AWESOME!!!

Well...now we're getting into semantics...and this is where many folks disagree with me...I say yes because of what I consider rice to be. I've posted in different forums concerning this question and it always causes an uproar cause rice is popular and everyone has a little so everyone gets offended cause of what I say...but...I'm just being 100% honest...so...long post..enjoy

I really have two deffs of rice...

    1. unnecessary and non-functional mods
    2. functional mods on a slow car (though this I can tolerate because...well...even though it's slow...the cars at least got functionality)

To answer your question some more...ALTHOUGH I would be able to give the owner some respect for actually having performance car...I would still cringe at the site of their numersous neon lights, nasty HUGE gauges for water temp and rpm's...

Really it's only because of what I consider rice...non-functional mods...like nasty body kits, 20" rims...wings that cause turbulance and no downforce...LARGE gauges that replace existing working gauges...that falls into unnecessary mods...just all around distasteful mods

BUT I also consider a car that looks like it is fast and is not, even if the mods are done tastefully....I still see it as rice...lowered, body kit, but slow engine...again...to me this is more tolerable as it shows SOME sign of knowledge

So I say rice is rice no matter the power...I don't much car for rice in ANY form and this is also were the argument flames up. Most likely because as a tuner I feel it is my obligation to promote true tuning...and not rice :D

But like I said...that's just me...so don't think my deff. should be yours ;D I hate rice in any form, no matter how much are little...honest opinion...do I hate you for having a little or a lot...no...I never said that...so don't take it personally.

Let's say a car looked ricey, riced-out, ricer, whatever you want to call it. However, it got a turbo set-up that gives close to 300hp at the wheels. Is it still rice?
